Suspicious calcium cluster in breast

Yearly mammogram, went in for 2nd to check out concern, they have me scheduled for biopsy. They said it’s calcium but want to make sure.
Does anyone have any insight with this?

Re: Suspicious calcium cluster in breast

I had calcium deposits and was called back for 2nd

mammo. It was fine. Happens more with dense breasts,

younger and or estrogen create density, harder to see breast tissue. I believe this is pretty  common, of course it is hell to go through.

Best of Luck!

Re: Suspicious calcium cluster in breast

Many years ago I had what the Dr called  "a solid mass" removed from my breast.

It was the size of a golf ball but was not cancer.  Unfortunately the stitches turned outward so I have a rather large scar there.

@springers

@Annabellethecat66

A few years back I had 2 calcium deposits removed and have had 2 keloid scars in the area.  They are still red and sit high above the surrounding skin.  Don’t hurt but can itch like crazy at times.

I can remember my dad had a growth removed from the center of his chest and a huge keloid formed:  guess I inherited that gene !  Thank goodness face doesn’t keloid, esp after eyelid surgery 1996 and then removal of several flat things later on.

Re: Suspicious calcium cluster in breast

@jlkz  Yes! Now I rememer, that's what the scar is called!

My late husband was cutting up wood, standing on the logs when he hit a knot and the chain saw jumped up two times and hit him in the jaw!

It chewed up his jaw pretty good.  There wasn't a plastic surgeon on call so some ding bat sewed it up in layers.

Anyway, because he shaved over the years you could barely see it after awhile.  If anything, it made him look distinguished.

My point for mentioning it, it became a keyloid (raised up).  It made sense when he said because he shaved (taking off the skin all of them time it became less and less noticeable).

Re: Suspicious calcium cluster in breast

Yes, I went through this exact same thing a year and a half ago.

I was 38 and found what I thought was a lump in my left breast while taking a shower.  I immediately called my gynocologist, had a check-up (he felt nothing), but was scheduled for a mammogram and sonogram. I was not yet 40, so I had no experience with having a mammogram and was completely scared out of my mind... The mammogram was clear on both breasts, but the sonogram showed a cyst in my RIGHT breast (nothing in my left breast at all!).

I was made to see a breast specialist to look at my mammo and sonogram results.  He believed it to be nothing other than a calcium desposit, but wanted a biopsy/removal.  I was scheduled for my procedure a week or so later.

I went in, had the biopsy, and it burst when they touched it with the needle.  That was exactly what they wanted to have happen.  It turned out to be mostly water filled and was found to be benign.

I must tell you that this was the scariest experience of my entire life.  I was convinced that I was dying, cried non-stop, and basically stopped living during this time period.  I have 2 very young little girls and all I could think of was them.

The fact that they are telling you that it is more than likely a calcium deposit speaks volumes.  If they felt it was suspicious, they would not give you a false sense of security like that.  Do what needs to be done and continue the path to good breast health.  I have learned that mammograms do not always catch what we want them to.  Sonograms go the extra step.  Now that I have had this experience I will never have only a mammogram.  A sonogram will also be required.   I'm thankful for that and you will be too.

I will be thinking of you.  Please know you are not alone.

Re: Suspicious calcium cluster in breast

I won't even try to say not to worry, because of course you will.

I agree that if you were told you may have calcium deposits, that most likely is the case. Stay strong and know you are not alone.

Microcalcifications can be checked by several methods. Mine was a stereotactic breast biopsy which yielded normal results.

Everyone's outcome is different and nothing can be guaranteed. Please turn to supportive family and friends to see you though this.

Please let us know how you make out. I will be praying for you.

Re: Suspicious calcium cluster in breast

I had 12 of 13 calcium microcalcifications arranged in a cluster and removed removed by biopsy. The pattern they made was somewhat suspicious because they were close by each other. They were found on a routine mammogram. I was in my mid 40's then.

The breast surgeon said it was a scar from my breast feeding days some 15 years earlier that had broken up. One microcalcification remains. It was further away.

That was 20 years ago.
