Surgery for Sinus Infection??

My dh started out a few weeks ago with pain shooting up his face to his ear and head. Primary sent him to a neurologist -neurologist sent him for an MRI (head and spine) - before we could get the MRI to the neurologist he called and asked about his ears - my dh said they are ringing - so he sent him to an ENT. An hour into the visit they were still on his sinus talking about operating on his deviated septum and infection (after they did a CT Scan)...I said wait a minute - what about the ears...so they sent him for a hearing test (no one knows why ears ring)...my dh was at the reception ready to schedule surgery. I told him he needs to get a second opinion - he's had his deviated septum for over 40 years. Oh, and the pain in his face has gone away which is what started all this to being with (and no answers to that)...

My question is - do they normally operate on a sinus infection????????
