Re: Supplements for Arthritis

Such a shame that Meloxicam can come with serious side effects, for me it is raising my BP. It makes such a difference in my knee pain, even taking just 1, in a couple of hours I feel relief. I take it sometimes for 2 weeks at a time, then stop, but within 10 days after stopping pain is back.

Re: Supplements for Arthritis

I thought long and hard about replying to this topic, but...... Two years ago my arthritis was so bad I needed help getting out of my local grocery store.  That's when I said no more cortisone for hips or shoulders.  (Stil get Rooster comb" in my knee).

I found a pain management doctor who asked me if I wanted to try a drug with really good results for OA.  Strange question.....of course I did.  The drug is CYMBALTA  starting with the lowest dose of 20 mg. I was really skeptical at first......I'm not depressed, I hurt!!!!  It took about 4 weeks to see an improvement, but the improvement has been remarkable.  I never had to go above the 20 mg., but my pain has improved 90%!!!!

Google "Cymbalta for arthritis" for more info.  Then ask your own doctors if it could help you.

Cymbalta (duloxetine) is a prescription medication that can be used to treat osteoarthritis (OA) pain, particularly when other treatments like acetaminophen or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are not effective:

    • How it works
Cymbalta is a serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) that increases serotonin and norepinephrine levels in the brain. These neurotransmitters help regulate pain signals in the brain.

    • When it's used
Cymbalta is used to treat chronic musculoskeletal pain, including OA of the knee or hip. It can also treat other types of pain, such as diabetic nerve pain, fibromyalgia pain, and chronic low back pain.

  • Effectiveness
Some studies show that Cymbalta is effective for treating OA pain and improving function. However, other studies have found that its effectiveness in real-world settings is unclear.

Per my doctor, I  take 1 or 2 Advil per day if needed for my achy body due to arthritis.  Some days I can manage without but there are some days it just hurts too much to accomplish anything.  I also do Essentrics exercises via YouTube.  There is a nice gentle one for pain. Moving around helps alot.  So does a hot shower!

Wow, I'm jealous ....  if I could get by on one or two Advil a day, if needed, I'd be thrilled.  You are blessed.

My dog is on meloxicam, but I just give it to her every other day. I use salonpas on my back pain.

Walking on my treadmill helps my back pain a lot.

@Puggywuggy

I used to take a magnesium supplement. I started having heart palpitations and my doctor ordered bloodwork. It came back showing my magnesium level was way too high. My doctor said to stop taking the supplement and, as a result, the palpitations stopped.

I'm so sorry that the magnesium supplement didn't work out for you. Did your doctor recommend anything else for the pain and inflammation? I hope they can find something to help ease your symptoms. ❤️

My recent heart attack was blamed on Meloxicam.  I don't know how the cardiologist could say that with any certainty.  I have other risk factors.  But, I can no longer take that drug or any NSAIDS.   My hands HURT!  I can not take turmeric.  It actually causes inflammation :/  What are your tried and true supplements for inflammation?

Thank you

I just saw this thread.

I'm sorry you're hurting. Smiley Sad

Someone else already mentioned Tart Cherry.

It's a natural anti-inflammatory.

It comes in capsules, gummies, and juice.

Ginger is also a natural anti-inflammatory. It's related to turmeric, though. I've been able to tolerate it without problems.

Another topical product is Biofreeze. It has some menthol in it but feels very cooling.

I also use a heating pad when my neck and/or back hurt.

I hope that you can find something that can help you to feel better. Heart

I've been reading about Moringa supplements.  I'm interested,  but need to do a little more research to make sure it's safe for me.

Do you remember the drug Darvocet? I think it was the weaker version of Darvon??? That worked so well for my fibromyalgia. Then they took it off the market. There's not been anything like it since. If it had any unwanted side effects, I wasn't aware of them.  Arthrotec is good for maybe two or three days and then it also causes swelling in my ankles/feet and hands (sigh).

Dragon is a opiod/narcotic. There are many other drugs just like it.
