Super Bowl Here in Phoenix - Crowded Everywhere!!!

Went out and got my paper this morning and the Blimp was flying over my house! I live about 5 miles from where ESPN is broadcasting and there is a fan fest going on. The streets are so congested here, even just trying to drive to the store.

We not only have the Super Bowl this week but the very popular Phoenix Open Golf Tournament is in N. Scottsdale. Plus, we get a lot of "snowbirds" from up north this time of year due to our lovely weather.

Restaurants are crowded, traffic is slow... it's amazing how many thousands of people have come here. Last night there were parties in downtown Scottsdale and I could here the sound of the bands in my front yard.

I know the Chamber of Commerce is happy. I'm a football fan, but it's really a frenzy when all this is going on. It's just so congested! At least the game is being played in Glendale (about 30 min. from me).

Fans are visiting the hotels where the players are staying. The Seahawks are staying in the far East Valley (about 45 min - 1 hour from the stadium in Glendale). The Pats are arriving this afternoon, not sure where they are staying.

Heck, I just want to see Ben Affleck and I'll be happy! You wouldn't believe all the women who have come here (dressed like Kim K) looking for a hook-up with a player or celebrity. It sure brings out all kinds of people.

Like the rest of the country, I'll be watching from the safety and quiet of my living room!

That's the way it is in Albuquerque during the Balloon Fiesta. We don't dare trying to eat out.

I live in Peoria about 7 miles from the stadium. Nothing much is different around here.

How exciting to have the Pro Bowl and the Super Bowl all in a 7 day time frame!!!

Arizona is a beautiful state to be in this time of the year.

I'm in NE Phoenix.....near the Scottsdale Airpark.........and it's deader than a doornail around here. No traffic.......stores empty.

That is so strange that it's so dead around Peoria and NE Phoenix. Everyone I guess is congregating in central Scottsdale.

They say that Glendale is hurting because there are no big resorts there or upscale restaurants, so all the big spenders are in Scottsdale and E. Phoenix. I think Glendale needs to build a nice resort so that they can get some of the revenue during these big events.

Well, you are lucky in your areas, because over here, it's a madhouse. I'm just glad I paid my Macy's bill last week so I don't have to go anywhere near the Fashion Sq. Mall. I could easily walk there and check out the festivities, but after hearing about the measles starting in Disneyland in big crowds and all the flu out there, I think I'll stay far away.

Pats are staying out at Wild Horse Pass. I was surprised at the Seahawks staying at the Arizona Grand Resort. Certainly not the best of our resort hotels.

I think people congregate in Scottsdale because it's more fashionable than Peoria and N. Phoenix. Or not?

Glad they picked a warm climate. Can you imagine if it was in NJ like last year? They'd never get the snow removed from the stadium.

Re: Super Bowl Here in Phoenix - Crowded Everywhere!!!

They're trying to build a new resort/casino in Glendale but our esteemed (?) senators are in the pockets of the Indian tribes on the east and south side who are totally against a casino on the west side. This has been in the courts many times, millions have been spent and the courts have, each time, sided with the tribe who wants to build. Our senators are pushing a bill through Congress to stop the building of the resort/casino and since they are republican, they'll probably get it through. They want to keep the money on the east side (Scottsdale, Fountain Hills) and not allow Glendale to recoup any of the monies that they have to pay to hold these events. It's outrageous what Glendale has to pay the NFL to hold the Superbowl here. I will not patronize the casinos on the east and south side. I will drive to Laughlin or Vegas until they get the casino/resort built.

Here in Sun City the streets are slow and the restaurants are not crowded so anyone reading this, come on over and join us.
