Re: Suggestions for exercise equipment and small space for storage

There is a whole body chair exercise thing....I think HSN sells one, QVC might also. You can sit and work out with resistance...and you can adjust the resistance as you get stronger stand and hold on to the chair. I think it looks perfect for you! Here is the HSN one.....http://www.hsn.com/products/chair-gym-exercise-system-with-twister-seat-and-dvds/7395682?query=73956...

Re: Suggestions for exercise equipment and small space for storage

I use Leslie Sansone's walking dvd's. I also have back issues, and these are very easy on my back. You can do the walks in your living room in a very small space. Used them all winter, as it was way too cold to be outside for any length of time!

Good luck. I know it's hard to exercise when you are in pain, but if the doctor said do it, you really have to, and your back will feel better when you take off some of the weight. Sending good thoughts your way.

Yall are so sweet and helpful. Thank you! I do not drive because of eye problems. I was walking in the yard but had to to stop because of the heat and having problems with being dizzy and waiting for appointment with a balance doctor that is behind with appointments due to a new computer. A friend will be sharing her walking tapes with me. I will research the body chair exercise system.

Perhaps you could try Leslie Sansone walking DVDs? She is very encouraging...and you could start slowly at your own pace til you build up strength.

Good luck to you!

Re: Suggestions for exercise equipment and small space for storage

A friend gave me her zumba sticks and Leslie Sansone walking dvds. I read the reviews for the resistance chair on hsn. Several people indicated you have to be careful because the chair will tip over. I am not over the weight limit for the chair. Amazon has a resistance chair exercise system that is a little more expensive. The reviews indicated it is very sturdy. Several people stated it was great and has given them strength and helped with MS , and mobility issues. I will do more research. Please continue with your suggestions. I appreciate eveyone taking the time to respond. Thank you! Have a wonderful weekend.

Re: Suggestions for exercise equipment and small space for storage

DH looking at the tv ad for the tredclimber- or whatever it is called. I doubt that I could do this and have no idea where to put this. He liked the idea that if you did not like it that the company would buy it ? No sure about this. Concerned about the size, assembly, price. I really wanted something small but sturdy to put in the corner of the den. I looked at the Tony Little forgot name- portable bar with bands and trying to determine if I could use this sitting in a chair.

The price and size of the tredclimer is not being considered. I just received a $10 coupon from hsn and would purchase the chair system but concerned about how long it would last. I like the concept that it give me more strength to beable to walk and do more. Please if anyone as this or other similar products please share your thoughts and results. Thank you!

I don't see any benefit in spending $150 for something you do sitting down if adding leg strength is your primary goal before trying to walk. A person can strengthen their leg muscles using things they might have around the house. If not, exercise bands work very well for adding strength and you can do them: standing/sitting or lying down. You can get a good set of different resistance bands for about $20. These also work for any upper or mid body exercise a person can ever want to do.

Now I have a full gym and have had for many years. I have equipment that some commercial gyms to not even have in them. But, I also use resistance bands for certain exercises because they are easy to grab at any time and also a person can stick them in their pocket or purse and take them anywhere they go.

Leg strength and flexibility will certainly make walking easier. That along with losing weight many times a person will not believe how much easier walking seems to be, even for those that have some type of physical problem with walking.

I left a link in another tread on this forum. I'll will see if I can find it and if I do I will put it at the bottom of this post and you can check it out if you wish. Will see if this works. The link does work in case this interests you.

As far as a TreadClimber by BowFlex? First off I think the cheapest model is around $1,000 and this one does not have a motor it is driven by your leg strength. Here are it's dimensions:

Length--43"

Width---27"

Height--53"

Weight-163lbs.

I have run/walked probably around 25,000 miles on motorized treadmills and when I used one of these to test it out? I does not come as natural as walking on a motorized treadmill, and many first time user of motorized treadmills take awhile before they really feel comfortable walking on them. I say forget this machine because if you want a motor the cheapest one is around $2200.

Some food for thought for you.
