Your chest is bare then "covered" For the Echo, you lay on your side with bare chest. The tech uses a hand held scan with gel and moves it over the chest. Yes, he did cover me with a small towel but it was a very long 22 minutes!
Do you want me to tell you what gender treated me most of the time when I had a major artery hematoma after a Heart Catherization? A Heart Cath is put into a major artery in your groin in case you aren't familiar with them. And guess what gender did this on the 5 I have had to date? Doctors don't do this and I met very few male nurses during my many stays in the hospital.
I also was hospitalized with 2nd degree burns in my groin area that had to be cleaned 3 times a day and covered with Silvadene Creme each time. I'm thinking most males would prefer a male nurse during these types of treatment, but you get what you get. While I understand the way you feel?
When one faces life/death situations as I have several times? Modesty is nowhere in the picture. Anyone that has had these types of experiences learns very quickly that modesty goes out the window and saving a life is what is important.
I actually want a male doctor & nurses. I don't like women touching me. I cringe when I have to go for a mammogram. I agree with John that it really doesn't matter what the s*x, they are just doing their job.
I kept thinking about a man that we know that was fired from a corporate job for watching p0rn on his office computer. He went back to school and became an 0b-Gyn Nurse. He told us her really enjoyed his job. I'll bet he did.
Fortunately, my testing was not life or death. I was sharing my experience so that those that do have issues would be fore-warned. So those gals who like or prefer male nurses, I say ok with me what you prefer. Clinics are asking for big problems by have a male in a room with a female patient and no other observer. Even male doctors are not alone in room with a partially clothed female.
I thought my experience showed a lack of sensitivity towards SOME female patients by my Cardio Group.

I have COPD and had a nuclear stress test earlier this year. There is no treadmill involved!!! They did a scan before they injected the ""stress"" medicine and then did another scan after. It was very easy.
It's just something they inject into the IV to stress your heart. They told me I will feel like I did after walking into their office and that's exactly what it felt like. I breathe heavy after any amount of walking.

Nobody but secks addicts watch p0rn, right? Hmmm, amazing that it is a multi-billion $$$$ business ain't it. Doubt anyone knows what their doctors/nurses look at on their home computers, but I am thinking many of them just may be. So this one corporate man went to become a nurse, and that means what? All males are addicted to something we cannot spell here?
"Fore-warned"? How about the word advised instead as "warned" usually is connected with trouble.
Clinics are asking for problems when I go in and have a nurse/NP or PA female in the room with me and not a male? So, I guess all males in the field of medicine that includes certain parts of the body should hire a "witness" for a certain gender patient?
A lack of sensitivity? To me it sounds like more of a patient problem than a Clinic problem. Once again I can assure you if you are ever rushed to an ER with a life threatening situation. who and/or whom are looking at what on your body will be way down your list and theirs.

Just to update all of you who have been so kind as to answer my post.
I went to the Cardio Dr. thinking I was to have the whole works done. Nope. Apparently, Medicare will only pay for one test at the time. I'm just guessing here, but maybe because they need to see if another test is warranted after you have begun the cycle (for lack of a better word.) So, the Cardio Dr. did another EKG and again, it was irregular. The next test will be the Eco test on the 18th and then the Nuclear Stress Test on the 25th. I have been told by two relatives that when they had their nuclear test done, it was discovered that they needed stints. They were immediately put in the hospital....not sent home and scheduled, but immediately. I can't find anything on the internet about how my heart rhythm is supposed to look, but the Dr. showed me. Everything beats along fine and then all of a sudden drops way down for a couple of beats, then back up. I am so hoping that it isn't anything serious, but, the Dr. was kind, took my hand and said, Mrs. " " you aren't 20 anymore and things can happen. With COPD and issues after a severe fall, I don't see myself doing well on a treadmill.
Getting old isn't for sissies.

They are called "stents" and I have 2 of them in my right coronary artery and both of them are "medicated stents".
Is there a connection between your COPD and your suspected heart issue? Are you on oxygen 24/7?
Only reply to my questions if you are comfortable putting that information on a public forum.

So sorry you couldn't get the entire test done in one day.
Your relatives were sent to the hospital immediately to undergo cardiac catheterizations, where they most probably had the stents put in place. I'm just telling you this in case you are picturing open heart surgery. I don't believe that was the case.
Hopefully, it will all be over soon and you'll have all the tests done and all will be fine. Again, I hope that the cardiologist sees this as "routine" - otherwise he would have coded it differently and your insurance would have paid for it all at the same time.
Wishing you good luck and good results....![]()

To: hekynut-- I never intended to offend you and imply that YOU were capable of any thing improper or unethical. The OP had questions about the procedure. I just shared my experience. None of you know my past or why I feel so uneasy with the situations described so to characterize me as having a "patient problem" is very unfair of you. Perhaps you could show some compassion by saying to me that you are" in the medical field and you want to assure me blah blah blah." But instead you tried to invalidate my feelings by saying that I have a "patient problem" My apologies to the others in this discussion, if I could have PM John I would have.

Not much in real life offends me and I can assure you nothing anyone says on this or any other public forum offends me. I am not a member of the politically correct police, thus as my mother said to me way back in the 1940's:
"Sticks and stones may break your/my bones but names with never hurt you/me".
What I consider to be a patient problem is my opinion and not (a try/an attempt) at "invalidation" of anyone or anything. Most people have problems with many things in life and if one lives long enough, most of that most, learn to deal with them. If you consider what or something I said in my post as "invalidating" you?

Hi-I had one done about 7 years ago now and it was all over in about 45 minutes? Included an echocardiogram and the treadmill thingy, of course. "Thingy" is my technical, medical term for when I'm getting tired and can't remember my words!
