I am on my 5th stationary bike since I started daily biking back in 1985. I always bought the cheapest and they do not hold up if you put in the workout. My brother bought me a ProForm for $500.00 back in 2000 from the Sears Dept. when we still had one. Sears is gone but I still sat on that same bike before work this morning. I have had to replace the pedals a couple of times, the seat and the fan no longer works for cooling me off. But it still burns all my calories they way I want it to. Just harder to get out of bed and get on it some mornings after almost 40 years riding. It is fun and I do love it.

Sold my spin bike that I bought on QVC a few years back, to a friend who whined that she could not find anything like it and ordered a recumbent bike which is better for me from Amazon. I hope it all works out.

@10sluvr wrote:John, do you think there are any fitness benefits to recumbent vs. reg. sitting bike? More-less-about the same?
thanks.
Kinda! From my experiences from 72 Cardiac Rehab Classes and 24 Pulmonary Rehab Classes! There were the regular Exercycles, and the Recumbents.
I don't ever remember seeing patients waiting to use the conventional Exercycle. There were always those waiting for an available Recumbent to use for their Cardio Exercise.
The riding part will give pretty much the same fitness benefits if all things on each are the same. Incline/resistance/speed, and so on. All Cardiovascular Fitness Benefits are based on your heart rate, whatever method is used to achieve certain levels.
Since the recumbent is more comfortable, for most anyway, a person is much more likely to use it more often. From that alone, my answer would be a resounding yes!

DH wants to buy the same recumbent bike they have at the rehab clinic he went to after his surgery. Unfortunately, they are only sold to medical facilities and despite our efforts, we haven't been able to find one that suits him. Will keep watching for recommendations in here!

In the early 1980's, it was the same thing buying a Treadmill. There were none made for retail sales,so! A Physical Therapist I knew ordered my 1st one. I returned it after a week for an upgraded model, which is still running. It is a Commercial level Trotter.
When my wife had her knee replacement I went to all her Physical Therapy sessions with her. They had the same brand recumbent I bought a few years prior. Mine actually is 1 model level higher.
The PT Facility had 3 of them and they were all the True brand name. Don't remember the model numbers, but I am sure they have newer models by now.
What brand was your DH Physical Therapist using? Mine has all the do-dads for measuring about everything. My only interests were the basics, which I could program in, depending on the level I wanted for that day. Seat is thick big leather/mesh backrest which reclines/declines, and just plain comfortable to use.
I bought it from a friend I met in my Road Running days. He has owned a Fitness Machine Company since the early 1990's. Sold it to me as Used, and I paid about 1 third of retail price. Love it!
If your have a Fitness Store in your area, might want to have DH check out the True Recumbent Models. They are not cheap, because like mine, it is considered Commercial Grade.

Thanks for the info. I will check out the True brand and see if he can find one he likes. We have two doctors in the family but they seem to have no clout as to finding out where the ones at the rehab clinics to when they retire.....I don't expect cheap, because I know from experience in these types of things, you really do only get what you pay for.

I swear by my Elliptical!
I'm petite and don't like having to lean over on a bike. It's uncomfortable for me.
The Elliptical has the arms for even more cardio work out when you want. Also many settings for intensity.
