All statins can cause severe muscle cramps. They are more dangerous than helpful. For me, I took them many years and had severe leg cramps. They can also cause permanent damage to those muscles.  I learned that they deplete Q10 so started taking trying to help. I finally said no more! The bottom line - doctors are finally admitting that statins are a waste of time and bad for you. The research done on them shows only a very small catagory of people it has been proven to help. Those were men only and over 60 who had already had a heart attack or stroke. It was shown to slightly reduce the chance of having another heart attack or stroke.

What? Where is the science to back this up? Every MD, cardiologist and other specialists, all think statins are the answer for those with cardiac issues. ALL! I've yet to meet one that doesn't. But of course, there are thousands of MD's. That's the consensus in the medical community.  Where do you get this information?

@bargainsgirl.  I've taken Simstatin for years and. never had a problem with it.  Are you sure you don't have some arthritis aches?

Common side effect of statins: muscle aches.

I did not decide to make this all up. I have spent a lot of time studying this over the years. The doctors who are raising alarms are mostly heart surgeons who continue research such as Dr Gundry.  There are still doctors out there who were trained to automatically prescribe statins. You need to do some research - if you don't like reading books try You Tube.

Dr. Gundry is controversial and not a thought leader in medicine, cardiology. Known by some as a charlatan.

I take 10 mg Atorvastatin every other day.  I hesitated taking statins and my MD suggested a low dosage every other day.  This keeps my cholesterol at a level she approves of and I am not taking much and have no side effects.  Works for me.

@PinkyPetunia My husband takes 10 mg a day and walks daily. He's had no problems either.

Yes, I have had terrible leg pains from taking a Statin. I am in the process right now of trying a different one to see if it makes a difference. So far no improvement so I will be taking to my Doctor again to see what else might help.

I've been on Statins for years. I know I sound like a broken record but you need to keep active for muscles not to ache. I'm a walker. I make it a point to walk my 6 miles a day. Yes every single day. I don't have any aches or pains. BTW I am 70.

Keep it up.  I am 88 and started exercing at age 23, never stopped. I could not take statins.  I still do 5 miles indoor bike a day, treadmill 2-3 miles a day and weight traning 1/2 hr. everyother day.  I also walk my dog, not far anymore because she is old.

I do have pain, but my yoga stretch on weekends helps mind and body.

I have no help to clean house or yard, but because I have exercised so long, I am able yet to do it myself. I live alone. My two sons in their 60's not so fortunate.  Exercise, very important in my opinion.

I hope you continue to be pain free for years to come.

@qvcaddition  You and others like you are such an inspiration. I know that's why you're able to keep doing as much as you do. And it sounds like you're not getting much help? I admire you very much!

@Mom in NY --I tried zetia too, years ago  and had to stop then --tried it again just this summer and had to stop again--horribly body aches and weird balance problems. Added it to the repatha I was taking to see if I could get more boost with the combo--- but that didn't work--took me a few days to get that out of my system. Glad it works for you!

@Teddie

Thank you for your kind words.  I did not reallize when I was young how important it would be to exercise.  We never think about getting old.

I am very fortunate to be able to do what I do at my age.

Even someone who is old now can do something, anything. MY yoga stretch is a disc from Peggy Cappy called, Yoga for the Rest of Us. I brought it years ago on Amazon.

Keep doing whatever you can do as you age.  Helps not only the body, but the mind.
