In all fairness, countrygahl wrote that all statins CAN cause severe muscle cramps.
Not that everyone will have a reaction to any particular statin.

Correct...that is how I understood her statement.

I've tried numerous brands. Had to quit, couldn't function.

@juanitalinda I misread what was meant when the word "can" was used and not "will"
as far as they "waste of time" comment the author of that thread will have to explain exactly what that means to me what statins have done for my husband is partly because of statins that kept him alive for over 21 more years in my life
thank you for pointing out my misreading of the primary comment

I've been on Statins for years. I know I sound like a broken record but you need to keep active for muscles not to ache. I'm a walker. I make it a point to walk my 6 miles a day. Yes every single day. I don't have any aches or pains. BTW I am 70.

Walking 6 miles a day is great, but it truly doesn't prevent the muscle pain and weakness for everyone.
At 70 years old I have walked 5-6 miles a day for over 20 years, rain or shine, or snow. (Gotta love those dogs.)
EXCEPT when I am taking a statin because the muscle weakness hits me so hard that I can't stand up much less walk.

That's just what I want to hear. I started Zetia last week and hope that I can lower my chloresterol and still be able to walk.

I always suggest going over to the EU, and checking out what the various countries have to say about statins.
I've known a few people who had severe leg weakness / pain / etc.
I don't know if they continued to take them or not.
But, for sure, go to the various medical associations 'over there' across the pond, so to speak. See what their research indicates.
It has been said that they have been way ahead of us re: discontinuing various OTC and prescription drugs, etc.
Jmo, of course.

As I said I too take Zetia, not a statin. Please remember it is not as potent as a statin and usual results are between 15 to 20% lowering, mine was 23% , my doc is very pleased. I have always refused a statin, but my doc assured me that Zetia would not give me side effects, she said she has many patients on it and no one complains. I retested 3 months after starting on it. The pill is so tiny, hard to believe it works !!! Best of luck !!
