I am taking Simvastatin 20 mg. but it may be causing a problem. Has anyone been switched to a different brand statin to eliminate the problems statins cause in some people? I see my dr. next week and hope to make a change.

Simvastatin caused severe leg pain in my husband; he was switched to Pravastatin and has had no issues.

I started on Crestor and experienced body aches. Changed to a Simvastatin and had no problems.

All statins can cause severe muscle cramps. They are more dangerous than helpful. For me, I took them many years and had severe leg cramps. They can also cause permanent damage to those muscles. I learned that they deplete Q10 so started taking trying to help. I finally said no more! The bottom line - doctors are finally admitting that statins are a waste of time and bad for you. The research done on them shows only a very small catagory of people it has been proven to help. Those were men only and over 60 who had already had a heart attack or stroke. It was shown to slightly reduce the chance of having another heart attack or stroke.

@bargainsgirl. I've taken Simstatin for years and never had a problem with it. Are you sure you don't have some arthritis aches?

@countrygahl. Whether statins are more harmful than helpful is strictly YOUR OPINION and that's not the consensus of the medical community. What you're saying is not what I've heard doctors say. Publicly.

I was on Lipitor (generic version) for 20 years with no side effects until I suddenly started having side effects, and they were awful. Excruciating muscle pain and weakness in my legs.
My Dr. switched me to Crestor (generic) and within two months I started getting muscle pain and weakness in my arms. Putting on my seat belt was painful. So the conclusion is no stations for me.
I am now on Repatha. Three months now and so far no side effects. The down side is $124 copay for three month supply. I'm having my blood work done this month so hopefully it's doing the trick. My cholesterol is familial so it can't be controlled by diet.
Fingers crossed!❤

I did not decide to make this all up. I have spent a lot of time studying this over the years. The doctors who are raising alarms are mostly heart surgeons who continue research such as Dr Gundry. There are still doctors out there who were trained to automatically prescribe statins. You need to do some research - if you don't like reading books try You Tube.

Too many doctors these days are pill pushers so what they say publicly doesn't hold the same weight it used to - or shouldn't anyway. Luckily more people are waking up to that fact and finding out there are better alternatives.

I forget which statin I was on because it was quite some time again but I had a terrible time with it. I was in so much pain and then I could barely lift a coffee cup. I am on Zetia, which my doctor says works in a different way. I have been on it for quite awhile and so far, so good.
