Re: Started taking Chantix today...

@Trudey  I sure wish you both the best of luck on this journey.  I took this journey about 10 yrs ago with the help of Chantix, I was ready to quit and Chantix made it so much easier than if I'd done it along.  I look forward to seeing how you are doing in the weeks to come.

Best of luck!!!

Re: Started taking Chantix today...

Day 2:  All is well.  The only thing that I've noticed is that my sense of smell is not as keen. DH and I both feel fine and we've reduced the amount we are smoking by half, so far.  We have set Wednesday as our absolute last day to smoke (we are hopeful that we'll stop before then).  I like that we can still smoke with Chantix and gradually taper off.  We have both noticed that we don't feel anxious at all...very chill.  The feeling for me is the same feeling that I had when I took Prozac for a period of time, several years ago.  Neither of us slept well last night, but that's not unusual for either of us.

Thank you all for your wonderful encouragement and I hope each of you have a wonderful day.

@Trudey

I am completely behind you, heart and soul!

The doctor told my parents they were going to die from nicotine poisoning if they didn't stop smoking.  They stopped cold!  In retrospect, that was the best thing they ever did for us!  The secondhand smoke was killing us too!

Re: Started taking Chantix today...

I quit smoking using Chantix, I kind of liked the dreams you get with it, that was the only side effect I had, now the hubby is into his second month of using it, no problems....

I waited too long to quit and ended up with cancer on my vocal cord, leading to a total laryngectomy.....PLEASE QUIT SMOKING NOW....not worth it...wish I would have listened sooner...

@moejoe  it's funny you talk about the dreams, my husband only had one very vivid dream and it was that someone was stealing his precious truck. If you knew my husband his truck is his everything, guess it was really a nightmare, ha ha!!

Best of luck @Trudey

@moejoe I'm so sorry to hear about your health issues.  I hope I haven't waited too long to quit...but you never know.  Sending hugs your way and best of luck to your husband.

Re: Started taking Chantix today...

Good luck in quitting! I quit using Chantix 7 years ago today. The only side effect I had were the intense dreams but like other posters I kind of liked them. Quitting was the hardest thing I have ever done and know that I cannot have even one cigarette because I know I don't have the strength to go through quitting again. Best of luck to you and DH.

For those of you who quit smoking using Chantix, do you remember how many days you continued to smoke while taking it?  Is there a point in time that you just don't want to smoke or that your taste for cigarettes changes?  I'm on day 3 and I have cut back considerably, but I haven't noticed any change in my desire to smoke.  The reduction in smoking is intentional, not automatic.
