My PCP is an internal medicine specialist with an interest in cardiology, but my pressure was easily controlled with the first medication.  If I had trouble I was planning to see a cardiologist.

@Ditzydori

My Cardiologist put me on, my Cardiologist took me off, with a lot of wanting off from me. I have never had high BP. The reason for my being on it was because of my 1st heart attack.

My Cardiologist wanted my BP as low as I could have it, and still be able to function at my high levels of physical activities. For me that was around 90/60. If the Diastolic got to say 56, I had to watch making quick transitions from sitting to standing, or head down leaning over. Light headed for a few seconds.

While on these meds from 2002 to late 2019, if I let my weight get too low my Diastolic became a problem, as stated above. Even as little as 5lbs could drop that number down to 55 or so.

I believe body weight can make a difference on many that have high BP. Even those that are not overweight can lower their BP by losing just 5lbs as did/do I.

I realize there are many causes of elevated BP, I also know that even being genetically predisposed does not mean a person cannot get their BP in a safer range.

Foods/condiments are a good place to think about. There is sodium in about everything. I was shocked when I checked my fat free milk a few years ago, and saw even it had sodium. Not saying sodium is a factor for everyone, but is certainly something to consider.

That's my BP story. When I was on Blood Thinners(Coumadin/Warfarin) my Pulmonologist took care of those meds. Why? Because I had Pulmonary Embolism 2 different times, spending 8 days in the hospital in IV Heparin and 9 days on the same in round #2.
