Many years ago I felt like my mouth was on fire. Even a sip of water caused my mouth to feel like it was being sliced with knives. I was diagnosed with a condition called Recurrent Apthos Ulcers and put on a prescription medication known as 'Magic Mouthwash.' It cleared it up and I never had it again. My dentist said I could get it again in a week, a month, a year, or never. So far, so good. I hope you find some relief. docsgirl

I get a sore mouth eating too much crunchy food. Yes , too many potato chips. (I am a bit ashamed.)

Hey, Halfpint1, you might want to give Parodontax toothpaste a try. This time last year, I irritated the heck out of the gumline around my upper left teeth with a hunk of hot crusty bread. I have done this before LOL but for some reason, that time, the gumline looked red and a little swollen to me even after the gash closed. Less than a week after using Parodontax, it was like nothing ever happened back there! If you don't want to change toothpaste, they make a dental rinse as well. I have not used that myself but if it works as well as the toothpaste, I think your mouth will be happy again soon. ![]()
Take good care!

When I was going thru chemo, the nurse told me to put in 1/2 tsp of baking soda and 1/2 tsp of salt into 2 cups of water, and swish my mouth for a minute several times a day to counter act the chemo making my mouth/teeth sore. I did it religiously and NEVER got the dreaded mouth sores that alot of people get. I just mixed it up, put it in a bottle, and left it in the bathroom cabinet and swished away. Did that for the 5 months of chemo. However--if this goes on for more than just a little while, you need to talk to the dr that prescribed your meds!!

@Jersey Born wrote:@halfpint1. Hi! If you are not allergic to coconuts, I would highly recommend oil pulling with coconut oil. Basically, you take from a teaspoon to a tablespoon (depending upon the size of your mouth, and comfort level, so you will not trigger a gag reflex) of coconut oil and melt it in your mouth, swishing it around in your closed mouth for 10 - 15 minutes. Do this two or three times per day, making sure you spit out the oil into your garbage can (with a garbage can liner in it), and not into your sink. Coconut oil is a liquid when in your mouth, but it converts back to a semi-solid in cooler temperatures, and it can clog your sink drains, as a result.
Oil pulling has helped me considerably. It even makes your teeth whiter. Coconut oil kills many germs that live in your mouth and gums, so it is ideal if you are having gum inflammation. Best of luck to you in resolving your problem. Definitely make an appointment with your dentist, in the interrim. I hope that you feel rather immediate relief after oil pulling.
I agree with @Jersey Born as I have been oil pulling now for about 10 years every morning.... I trade off with both sesame oil and coconut oil. It is one of those things that people have been attributing to good health for thousands of years... it has its followers and its critics. I choose to do it as part of my oral hygiene routine.

You might want to see a doctor. My SIL had those symptons and it turned out to be rather serious. You might not have the same disease - so I won't say what her's turned out to be.

Burning mouth syndrome?
Does your sore mouth and gums have a burning sensation? I have BMS and take anti-anxiety med for it. It is horrible and real. My experience is, a lot of doctors will dismiss it, but it is real. Google it. Best wishes @halfpint1

I use FRUIT OF THE EARTH ALOE JUICE for a rinse. I swish it around in my mouth for a few minutes 2 times a day. After a dental cleaning, I'll hold it in my mouth for 5 minutes or so while I do other things. I no longer have dry mouth, sore gums or teeth. Works wonders. You can read about it on the internet for further information. Hope this helps you on your journey to be pain free. Have a wonderful day. Hugs.

@halfpint1. Your gums may be having a reaction to the denture cream you are using. I hope that is not the case, but if it is, you will need to investigate other products that will not cause you this problem.
When I had dental work a few years back and had a temporary crown in place, the crown fell out just a few days before my appointment for the permanent crown placement. I was told to use denture cream (Polydent) to hold the temporary in place until my appointment in two days. I will say that I almost passed out from the agonizing pain I immediately felt when I put that Polydent cream with temporary crown onto what was left of my natural tooth. I almost saw stars. It was a blinding kind of pain, like a 10 out of 10; something I had never experienced previously and hope to never experience again. While I must have been too close to a nerve, using that denture cream sure made me wonder about what kinds of harsh chemicals are in that type of product.
Wishing you releif from your sore mouth and gums.
