Something New At My Primary Doctor's Appointment

I was asked to give consent for a microphone to be turned on in the examining room so everything could be electronically recorded and transcribed via a voice recognition system. Then it would be uploaded to their computer.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

For a hundred reasons, I declined.

The receptionist told me many people were refusing.

@PickyPicky3 Last year at my yearly doctor appointment she asked if I'd approve a medical student taking notes so they could be transcribed into my file & like you I declined ... I don't know why but it would have made me very uncomfortable.

I would decline also. Many times when I ask Siri for information or when I do "speak to text" the words are not transcribed correctly. I would want 100 percent reliability in that type of situation.

Wow ... the first thing I thought of is their malpractice insurance, and how costly it is. Maybe the insurance companies are giving MDs a discount if their appointment are recorded?

When I talk to my doctor, it's between us. Yes I know they make notes, but it's not the conversation verbatim.

Personally, I would pass.

It's a lot of work doing notes. My derm has the nurse write notes into the computer during our visit.

My family practice both doctors I saw put the notes in themselves as we were talking.

If they record it and send out the recording to a company that transcribes, it's probably cheaper than having the doctor do it.

It's all about saving money and seeing more patients.

My husband's oncologist's exam room has a sign that tells the patient that there's no recording on your phone during the visit. When the doctor comes in the room, an assistant comes in with him and I'm assuming she's typing everything that's being said. She looks like she's doing some kind of court reporting. Funny how no one said anything about what she was doing. Next time I'm going to ask!
