Re: Softwave/Shockwave/Therapy

Get X-rays of the affected area FIRST.  Several years ago I had this kind of treatment when I saw a chiropractor for an issue he ultimately couldn't fix.  He sent me for X-rays and long story short, I needed cervical fusion surgery.

Of course he's going to dissuade you from trying it. He's in the business to make money and he knows that if this works and word gets out, that threatens his bottom line.

Also, just ignore posts like the one from Qchecker. It's unfortunate that some are stuck in such narrow-minded thinking.

Re: Softwave/Shockwave/Therapy

@ThinkingOutLoud the only thing I'm concerned about is what IF this causes harm or a side effect then I'm in more of a mess.  These practitioners have you sign waivers before they start treatment.  I know nothing about Shockwave but I have had meniscus surgery on this knee 3X and gel shots.  My ortho told me I'm not a candidate for TKR even went for other opinions they all concurred.  A friend of mine is bone on bone (I'm not) and she said 4 treatments seem to help as of today.

You sign waivers at a hospital, too, so that shouldn't be a determining factor.

Furthermore, as far as being in a bigger mess - I have a family member that had foot surgery not that long ago and is in more of a mess from that.

I suggest you make a decision based on hope and not fear.

@ThinkingOutLoud I like the way you think!!  What kind of foot surgery?  A friend of mine just went through a big surgery and they say it can take 6 months to 1 year to fully heal

I don't post often but saw your question about shock wave therapy. I'm currently seeing a chiropractor for SWT for SI joint and IT band issues. It is not covered by insurance but I've gotten a lot of relief from it. Supposedly it stimulates your body's ability to be able to produce stem cells into the inflamed area as well as increasing blood flow. It isn't painful and it's non-invasive. If you're okay with the price, I'd give it a try. It's better than pumping your body full of pharmaceuticals. A nurse friend was taking cortisone shots in her back for arthritis and they stopped working. Her provider suggested she try SWT.  She said her back continued to improve after finishing a 10 treatment regiment of SWT. The health care industry is strongly influenced by big pharma so I'm not surprised some providers scoff at something like this....just MOP. Good luck to you.

I agree with you 100%.  Anything to do without drugs is a no-no to so many doctors.  SWT worked for me.  I know it is expensive but it worked and it is so much better than taking meds or having surgery.  NO SIDE EFFECTS!!

I read online about a few new very promising treatments for arthritic knees, but then I realize these are approved for use in Europe only as of now.

European medicine is way ahead of us in so many ways...

@bargainsgirl I did check it out and my chiro is offering laser/shockwave.  I'm going to get all the information.  He asked me to bring in my current MRI's and he will give me a treatment plan to think about.  The first session is complimentary.

Best of luck to you!

It is NOT a money grab.  You just have to research and see if you can be helped by it.  It has been nearly 7 months since my last treatment and things are exactly the same.  I would do it again if I needed to.
