I take trazadone every night. Prescription only. I've had insomnia, all of my life, and it's the only thing that works for me.

@Mom2Dogs

I hope you didn’t miss my post that I had the same exact problem with plugged ears. 😔

I really believe he can be helped like I did without medication. Medication has too many side effects and did not work one bit for me!!

I take gabapentin to help me sleep.  Originally I took it for lower back pain but that resolved and I continued taking it at night as a sleep aid.  I get 7 hours of sound sleep.  When I told my doctor why I was still taking it, she said that was perfectly fine as long as I just taking 300mg before bedtime.

@RescueLover   I read your post about the  air purifier this am...thanks.  I wonder why all of a sudden the issue appears?  His ear do not itch or hurt.

occasionally I will take a tylenol PM to help sleep.  Just a single one.

If my mind is really racing and I try to sleep and after atleast an hour of tossing and turning..the CVS sleep aid I will pop. This happens maybe once in 2 months or so.

Both are non addicting and no nightmares or night walking as prescription aids.

Most OTC sleep aides are just Benadryl.

Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being positive what could go right.

Yes--I take .5 mg of Ativan per night---it does marginally well altho it is a conrolled substance. My sleep *UCKS!!!! Went to neuologist and he was appalled at my sleeping issues so he set up appt for a sleep clinic. Will go soon. Nothing over the counter helps me at all. But am thinking if your hubby has ear problems --he needs to go to an ENT maybe??

You said his hearing problem came on as a result of mowing the lawn.  Perhaps the vibration/noise caused a tiny perforation in his eardrum(s).

An Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, Throat Doctor) would be my next stop before a sleep specialist.

As you said, if his ears would straighten up, his anxiety and his sleeplessness would too!

@wagirl   He has seen the ENT twice in a month...no ear issue that they can see.  He thinks it is an allergy issue, so is on Claritin right now - but still no relief.

He did get a good nights sleep thanks to the sleeping pills he was prescribed.

@Mom2Dogs --well good--I figured that was something you already did---the ent, I mean---I am not very optimistic about going to a sleep clinic--I have insomnia and not apnea and that is not considered a life threatening thing!!! Have always been a very light sleeper--the ativan I take, works maybe 1/3 of the time but I still only get 4-5 hours---on a good night!!
