Re: Sinus issues, advice welcome!

@Mom2Dogs@ROMARY@sfnative@lolakimono

@fortune

I will post the name of my doctor: Dr Thomas Hung, Dallas ENT group

website: http://www.dallasentgroup.com

The group (only three doctors) is highly regarded and comes recommended to me by my Opthalomogist... who is a long-time, respected MD here in my town.

Dr. Hung solved  sinus issues for me, some of which had been CAUSED by previous sinus surgeries.  I suffered 30 years with migraines greatly exacerbated by sinus infections.

The first surgery detected MOLD growing... ewww

The second surgery (outpatient) discovered pseudomonas.

He sees little children (Children's Hospital) who have malformed facial features... so his knowledge of plastic surgery is great.

He recommends sinus rinses (nellmed) [if I do 8 per day, my infections now go away]

I have not had antibiotics for sinus infections for three years.

We will make sure DD is treated by him when she finally realizes that he is the only doctor (IMO) that can actually CURE this!  HTH

Re: Sinus issues, advice welcome!

For years I had repeated sinus infections. I would get one, get antibiotics, get better, and the next month another. Finally I gave up and went to alternative medicine where they told me to stop eating gluten and wheat. They used muscle testing and told me I had a sensitivity to both. I did, and VOILA!!!!!  No more sinus issues -- at all. It's been a couple of years now.

Re: Sinus issues, advice welcome!

@LTT1  thanks! I wish I lived closer to that doctor.  I am having a sinus issue right now....I don't think I have an infection but I can feel my sinus are swollen. Last night I slept on the couch....I had a headache and what little sleep I got was not restful...my face felt 'swollen' this morning, not the look I was looking for as I headed out the door to work.

I tried to get into see a doctor or at least get a script earlier this week, I could not get an appointment and she would not give me an  RX. She said  I needed to wait 14 days, then come and see her if I am not better.

I told my dh that after the first of the year I am going to research ENTs...I will need to travel about 1 hour for an appointment.  As suggested I will ask for a nasal swab to see if anything pops up.  The one side of my nose is ALWAYS SWOLLEN and difficult to breath thru that side, but one ENT I saw said he didn't see any swelling, sigh......he was to lazy to get up and take a good look at me, that office visit was  $134.00, and 15 minutes of my time and money I'll never get back.

I appreciate your feedback....and I hope you stay healthy!!

We are having the sinus issues with our DGCs now.  One is just 6 months (has eczema on his face) and the other DGD 17 months) has had one ear infection after another. Our DD and I have had the repeated, chronic issues all of our lives.

They live in a small town that has no pediatrician.  They do travel to another town to see a pedi.  This is to tell you that the more a doctor has to "put up with seeing you" (my Internal Med specialist used this terminology) the quicker they begin to realize that the infections, while usually causing a low-grade fever, never quite go away.

Our asthma-allergist told me that if symptoms come back 3 weeks to 4 weeks later, then the present infection is not "cured."

A culture cannot be taken simply with a swab... it is rather invasive to culture matter from the sinuses, but, of course, when you are desperate (like I was) you don't care.

The babies are constantly on antibiotics, which is a no-no, but doctors are still not easy with performing surgery on the very young.

I hope there is a cure, soon.  Enough of this polluted air, etc, causing such misery.  Before my first surgery with this fine doctor, I struggled to walk from the waiting room to the OR.  YUK

I sure do hope you feel better soon.

I forgot to add that the ENT I recommended is very far away for us considering traffic troubles.  It takes about 1 1/2 hours and heart-stopping traffic situations to get to him.  I do think the good ones like this (at Medical City and Children's hospital) are used to dealing with patients who live farther away and so they tailor their procedures to match.  This was a god-send.

Sugar and dairy cause sinus issues.

Have you tried elminating them or cutting back on them from your diet?

Re: Sinus issues, advice welcome!

I'm on allergy meds as well as shots and have never been happier!  I spent my whole live with almost a year round slightly runny nose and being stopped up.  Then it would go into broncitious.  I take several pills and use two sprays. I couldn't even feel the scratch test. The shots are tiny needles in the back of the arm.  Thank goodness I'm ok with the dog!

I got the allergy pillow cases from National Allergy (they have upholstery sprays and everything) and DH immediately stopped snoring!

I am allergic to dust, and a lot of allergens that the weather man measures.

Re: Sinus issues, advice welcome!

what is thr RX decongestant/antihistime that you use?

The OTC antihistimines arent' that effective.

I just recently thought about laundry detergent because my symptoms seem worse when in the bedroom and I use an air purifer.   Seems Purex and All clear are the top unscented/allergy fee detergents.

Re: Sinus issues, advice welcome!

I was the OP of this thread...I recently had my eyes tested and mentioned/complained to the doctor about my drippy nose, watery eyes, etc. He looked at my eyes  saw how red, damp and bloodshot they were, and saw that along the lower and upper lashes, at the rim, both eyes were heavly clogged!  He put me on an eyedrop for a couple weeks as well as an eye wash.  My symptoms have pretty much cleared up!

He says the 'clogging' (sorry I do not recall the medical term) comes with age and that I will need to be proactive, and stay on top of my symptoms but I do not need to use the drops or eye wash daily, only once things start to flare up!  He told me to use a product similar to systane a couple tims a day to keep my eyes lubricated.

It has been such a relief, my nose barely runs any more. My eyes are sensitive, I don't know if that will improve or not but I am so glad my eyes at least look a little better, I don't look like I have been on a crying jag!  Who knew!!

Thanks everyone, for your advice and sharing your experiences.  I will research the docs in my network again and try to find a better doctor, and ask more pointed questions!  I woke up yesterday morning at 5 am....headache and unable to breath thru one side on my nose, I felt sick all day, the headache hung on all day thru the evening.

I know there are people that suffer much more than I do with a lot of different illnesses so I don't want to complain to much but I would like a little relief.

@Mom2Dogs

Sorry, but I think you're doing yourself a GREAT disservice trying to self diagnose a tricky problem by using "remedies".

Since you don't know what the problem is, find yourself a good ALLERGIST.  Skipping that important step makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.  JMO
