Silicone spray for Aero Pilates?

I read this somewhere, here on these boards. I'm not sure what the question was. Was the spray recommended for an easier glide on the Pilates? Does anyone know what I'm posting about? Thanks.

Re: Silicone spray for Aero Pilates?

Yes I know what you're talking about. Maybe it was my thread from a couple of months ago where you read about silicone spray?

http://community.qvc.com/forums/health+fitness/topic/487423/anyone-have-the-aeropilates-performer-2...

I wrote about how my old Pilates Performer was starting to fall apart -- the plastic wheel covers came off and now it's metal wheels on a metal frame. I called Stamina and they suggested I try silicone spray on the tracks and not to use anything BUT silicone spray (not to use the regular WD40). I've been doing that for a few months which has been ok but it's a pain to spray every couple of workouts and I enjoy my workouts so much that I think I will just purchase a new machine. I had asked in that thread if anyone had the 271 model but I didn't get any responses.

F11358

AeroPilates Reformer Plus 5 Cord w/ DVD's Pull Up Bar and Rebounder

My BF and I just bought the f11358 aero pilates 5 cord. The glide is kind of bumpy, so I wiped the tracks down with a scrubby I use for dishes. It helped but it's still, thump, thump, over the seam where you fold it. I suggested WD40, but thought I'd ask first. I had an older one from 2001? and the wheels got gummy and left residue on the tracks every time it rolled. I gave it away.

Where do you get the silicone spray? Will it deteriorate the rubber wheels, or will it save them?

Thanks so much.

Re: Silicone spray for Aero Pilates?

Dot, I don't know what to tell you about the bumpiness over the seam. Mine started bumping over the seam but after about 10 years. I don't think it should be happening on a brand new machine! If you had to assemble yourself maybe that's why it's bumpy. No one should have to pay that much $$ and not have a smooth ride.

I would call Stamina (the company) or try to contact the vendor (Marjolein) about the problem. The silicone spray will not remove the bump over the seam. That's a matter of calibration. I used the spray because metal on metal was causing horrible screeching and the wheels were getting "stuck" at the top of the movement. At any rate, I purchased WD40 brand SILICONE spray at Lowe's.

I just found a video on changing the wheels. If this is all that's wrong with yours, you can buy new ones. The video is very short.

Thanks very much! I'll definitely look into doing that. Too bad Stamina didn't offer that solution when I told them about my problem. {#emotions_dlg.glare}

Re: Silicone spray for Aero Pilates?

I personally have used a non-silicon spray for years, starting with my 1984 treadmill. Have use them on every other machine I have that has friction, be it bearings or other things. Yes, I use it on my Pilates/Total Gym along with my newer Sole Treadmill.

That's interesting. The person at Stamina emphasized not to use the regular non-silicone WD40 because it would ruin the machine somehow. Oh well.

Re: Silicone spray for Aero Pilates?

The non silicone spray that I use is an aerosol spray that sprays a mist and dries on contact. It is unlike WD 40 that is a liquid when sprayed.l would never use WD 40 on any of my machines.

Re: Silicone spray for Aero Pilates?

WD isn't truly a lubricant, it's for dissolving rust etc. I've never used silicone for my total gym, but I use it for the wheels under our sliding glass doors. Makes them smooth for quite awhile. Now I have used wax very lightly.
