My husband was just diagnosed as having Silent Heart Burn by a specialist. His treatment is just prelisec. Interesting, isn't it? I never heard of that. He was wondering what was causing his voice to be softer and not like it used to be, So I googled it, and it's just what he has symptoms for. Good it wasn't anything serious, no surgery, no cancer!

Praise the Lord!

Tell hubby to be careful with long-term use of Prilosec.   It in itself can cause problems.  Do your research and read about it.

I took it for a long time for acid reflux before being ordered off it.  Now I can't take anything but something like Tums.

Try a couple of marshmallows. It helps me-can't hurt!

Re: Silent Heart Burn

I have silent heartburn b/c of my AI disease. My rheumatologist had me on Nexium for a while but I did not continue taking it for long. Now I just practice certain eating habits and when necessary I eat a couple of ginger chews and that helps me a lot.

These are fantastic. They really work and not expensive either. Tastes good, too.

@SilleeMee

A friend of mine uses ginger soft chews too for her heartburn she buys the bags at Trader Joe's.

Since I have esophageal stricture because of gerd I take Prolilosec. As I have osteoporosis like you do long term isn't great taking it like @Kachina624 said. They told me pick, esophageal cancer or osteoporosis wow some choice

How do you take them? Daily or as needed?

@Starpolisher

I take them as needed. Two tablets and I'm good.

@Starpolisher  @SilleeMee interesting topic...I also have gerd...im on Omneprazol

I take it when I need it, but lately I've been getting bad attacks so it's almost every day i need it.

My voice gets weak and hoarse too...I had no idea that could affect it.  I'm seeing an ENT end of month because I've been having awful ear pressure and worsening hearing loss...I heard gerd can affect the ears too.

But my ears are a lifelong history of problems.

@Dazlin

Wow, my hearing is bad, too. I never connected that to having heartburn. I have tinnitus and sometimes it feels like have fluid in my ears where I can't remove it, feels strange. Yikes.  I'm gonna speak with my doctor. Thanks!

@SilleeMee ...I googled it looking for eustachian tube dysfunction or fluid...and one thing that came up was gerd.  I've been to mayo clinic for hearing tests and hearing aides and they cant see fluid because my ear drums are badly scarred from childhood infections.

Like I said mine has been all my life, but this past year I've complained repeatedly about terrible ear pressure or fluid and I can't hear worse than ever...seems something kicked in abruptly.  Too quick for a drop in hearing.

Then my voice...some days I can hardly talk, and I sound weird to myself.

I'm so disgusted I can't even explain...although my hearing aides help, im somewhat dependent in some situations or phone calls...I HATE IT!

It was recommended I get cochlear implants...im not doing that.

The voice thing got me searching...and now I came upon this thread.  Ill be mentioning all this to the ENT...im waiting two months for him...hes highly recommended for complicated patients...hope i get help...can't stay like this.

Keep me posted if you find out anything...im seriously desperate...take care!
