Thanks for this info.
I'm going to discuss with my endocrinologist as she is treating me for hypothyrodism and I don't want anything interfering with that medication.
I appreciate your responding with this alternative and I've marked it this time so I don't forget.

I've been taking Fosamax for about 10 months and have had no problems with it, at least not yet. I also walk about 5 miles a day most of that with a weighted vest on.

@Witchy Woman I am so sorry you have endured a bad reaction to a drug. They estimate that 500,000 Americans a year suffer negative side effects from drugs. You are SO SMART to stop taking this drug. Hopefully your doc can find a better and safer option. As to your hip pain, there is a product on the Hammacher Schlemmer website called "The Deep Tissue Heating Body Pad" that uses infrared heat to soothe your pain. It is a huge pad, and has received rave reviews. I just ordered one with a promo code I found and it helped with the high price of this unit. People say that, unlike a heating pad which radiates the heat OUT, this pad radiates the heat IN, so you really get deep relief. You might want to check it out. Good Luck!

@SilleeMee@Witchy Woman - the BulkSupplements brand is back in stock (finally) at Amazon. I have been stalking it for awhile now. At @SilleeMee's recommendation I have been using it for a couple of years now. I started because my hair did not like biotin. Unexpected side effect was a significant improvement in my dexa scan results - went from osteoporosis back to osteopenia!
My mom's doctor wants her to try the yearly infusion of Reclast. She is 93 and has short term memory issues. Other than that she takes no medication. We are concerned about side effects since she will not remember if she is having problems if someone asks! She walks miles and miles every week (actually wore out the wheels on her walker) but she does take a spill in her apartment every once in awhile. All these medications seem to have potential issues, it's hard to know what to do or figure out how to decide.

That's wonderful to see how the silica helped with your bones. I'm smiling right now for you in fact! Did the silica do anything for your hair? For me it made my hair very soft and silky...something the biotin never did for me.
I hope your mom will find a solution for her bones, too. Walking is great and weight-bearing exercises are even better for bone health. I use resistance bands everyday and it helps plus I walk miles also.

@SilleeMee - the biotin seemed to really dry out my hair. I did not make the connection for quite awhile and kept taking it. My goal in switching to the bamboo silica was to keep the hair on my head and not on the bathroom counters and floor. I think it is doing better and I am happier with the way it looks and feels. Having had very fine, normal hair (not oily, not dry) that was board straight my whole life, it is rather odd to suddenly have dry hair that is very curly (sometimes I even get ringlets). Ah the joys of aging (not).

@Witchy Woman wrote:About 4 months ago, I was given Alendronate Sodium tabs 70mg for osteoporosis.
During that time, I've developed severe pain in my right hip which I could not pinpoint to anything I've done. It's been so bad at times, I am limping when I walk!
Sure enough, one of the side effects of this medication is severe muscle and/or joint pain.
I've got a doctor's appointment in the next few weeks, but I've taken my last pill. The pain has been so bad, it wakes me up. Aleve helps, but I cannot continue to take that.
I'm just mad at myself for not identifying the issue before now. Since I'm very healthy, any sort of pain or problem is really out of the ordinary for me.
Not sure what I can take to help the osteo, but it won't be this medication.
@Witchy Woman Take this advice---stay away from those meds. They will screw up your jaw..They will screw up your stomach and your joints. Please don't even consider Reclast or any IV. Once that attaches itself to your bones you are done. I Know women that ended up in a wheelchair because of it. Execise with weights.

Just had my scan and I'm in osteopenia. Which strength of the Bamboo Powder should I get. Amazon has more than one. I read about this about 2 years ago but feel now I should try it.

I do exercise my upper body with weights, and now, going to seek out other more specific exercises.
Was a runner for years, now spin an hour every day.
Hoping I can find a more natural alternative. Not a fan of medications if I can avoid them.
