Re: Shout out to all the great doctors out there

I was in the hospital twice for extended periods of time and I have to add to this about the amazing, kind and caring nurses I had. I always told them thank you and acknowledged them by name when they came in my room. Such special people.

Re: Shout out to all the great doctors out there

@Teddie, it takes a special type of person to become a nurse, I know I couldn't do it. I was talking to one of the nurses who was part of my care team after my cardiac ablation last week.

I had commented on how personable he was & I told him exactly what I posted above, that it takes a special type of person to be a nurse. He asked why I felt I wouldn't make a good nurse. I told him that you have to be a people person, he said I seemed like I enjoyed being around others, then he said you needed to have a lot of patience, no one feels their best if they're in the ICU. I told him I don't have patience, I get aggravated/frustrated easily & you can't do that when somone is sick enough to be in the hospital. You also have to have empathy for your patients.

I was considering sending the ICU nursing unit a thank you card, but I'm not sure if that would be appropriate. I was so out of it most of the time that i was there that I don't remember the names of every nurse that I interacted with.

A thank you note is a lovely idea and would be much appreciated. you can address it to the nursing staff of whatever unit you were in. Too often the nursing staff is overlooked and under appreciated. you would brighten their day.

@reiki604, I'll be out & around the day after tomorrow, so I'll make sure to stop & pick up a card. I thought sending them a fruit bouquet would be nice as well.......until I saw the prices that are being charged for them.

Re: Shout out to all the great doctors out there

@wonderfulworld,   I have a wonderful, caring, excellent PCP.  She is on top of all my medical information and takes good care of me.  I have been with her 4 years going on 5.  The doctor that operated on my hip replacement I will never have him operate on me again.  Arrogant, rude, not personable at all.  Completely self-centered.  I wish I knew that before surgery because I would have chosen another doctor.  Yes, there are a lot of wonderful doctors out there.  My Godchild is a doctor and I am so very proud of her.  She is another caring, excellent doctor.  Thank you to all the doctors who chose this profession for the right reasons.  HeartCat Very Happy

I have never (yet!) had surgery but I wonder if a different kind of personality is drawn to surgery. You would have to have a lot of confidence to do that.

I know a young man who is brilliant but terrible with people. He became a dr.and works  in the hospital (major University) as a specialist in  transplant patients follow up medications.  No office hours and doesn't have prolonged patient contact. Long hours and lots of emergency calls though.

I know a labor and delivery nurse and they always appreciate a box of candy they can share! It never occurred to me when I was having babies but I would now.

@wonderfulworld, I would have to clear it with the unit director first, but I was considering sending them one of the prepared sandwich trays that Costco sells. I haven't bought one in quite a while so I'm not even sure what they offer.

It is wonderful that you appreciate the time your dr. spent with you.  So many people only find fault.  A dr. schedule is grueling and unpredicable and it is not always possible for them to spend the time with us that we think we need.  Glad your surgery went well and you can now look forward to the new house project.

Yeah for all the doctors that have helped me all my life.
