Shingrix is an expensive vaccine. If you have Medicare part D, you pay half. For those that don't, the cost is between $200 & 300.00.

I am not on Medicare and my insurance paid 100% today.

My husband, who is on Medicare, paid a little over $30.

We gave up on Walgreens and CVS for wait list.

One day we decided that we would just make stops at smaller pharmacies. The first stop was at Tom Thumb (Same as Albertson and Randalls) and they had it. Pharmacist asked how we knew that had it. She said they get many doses and not even necessary to get on a list for shot #2.

We both just had local tenderness and redness.

I’m happy you were able to get your shot.  I had shingles that went through my rt. eye and it was AWFUL pain, ended up in the hospital for almost a week.  Waited almost 2 years for the first shingles vaccination, it was around $300.00, but this was several years ago.  Before I got the vaccine I had 2 - 3 flairs.

Unfortunately am not a candidate for the Shringrex.

@Havarti : Medicare doesn't cover the shingles shot? My husband and I got both earlier this year and we paid nothing unless our supplemental covered it all.

FYI..............

Medicare requires Part D plans to cover the shingles vaccine, so if you're enrolled in Part D, you shouldn't have difficulty obtaining the shot. ... For Shingrix, the newer vaccine, that averages around $190, according to GoodRx, a website and app that tracks prescription prices.

I am on Medicare and I was told it was not covered by Medicare and therefore also not covered by the supplemental plan - supposedly they only cover the part of something Medicare does not pay.  If Medicare doesn't pay anything then supplemental does not pay anything.  I was told it falls under the Rx plan and that it is a tier 5 drug and therefore not covered.  It is interesting to find so many people on Medicare got it covered.  Time for me to do some further checking before the deadline to sign up for a new provider.  Thanks to all for sharing your personal information so I could learn about this in time to make changes.

@Sadiesadie

What Rx plan do you have that covered it 100%?  The one you have may not be available in my area, but if it is I certainly want to explore its options.  TIA

Yes, that is what I found out a few months ago when I tried to get the shot.  At that time I was told it was not covered by Medicare - and therefore not covered by supplemental either.  Rx is the plan that covers it .  I have Humana Walmart plan and it is considered a tier 5 drug and not covered.  I was quoted $150 per shot at that time and it matched Good Rx in price.  I am eager to find an affordable way to get these 2 shots.  I am amazed to find such differences in pricing for people on Medicare.

I have SilverScript for my Part D Medicare coverage, and my cost for the Shingrix vaccine is $84 per dose.

I am 68 years old and got both #1 and #2 after a wait of several months at my local CVS.  I have a part D plan and only take one generic medication and pay nothing for it.  My Part D plan is 11.00 a month.  Both my vaccines cost me $160.00 each.
