If you are over 60, get the vaccine!!!

Why wait till 60? I got it the week I turned 50, after I heard two acquaintances had it. One case was very bad. Neither was 60 or even close to it.

A weak immune system does trigger shingles. I know for certain this to be true. There may be other reasons as well.

A friend of mine got shingles when she was about 55 and said it was a terrible experience. My insurance company won't cover the shingle shot until you are 60, which I will be in October. I resent having to pay $200 for a shot that my insurance should cover, so I'll gamble and wait until October to get the shot. Isn't that shot considered preventative and I thought health insurance was willing to cover preventative care but I guess not in the case of the shingle shot.

You're welcome to try Lisine for shingles but don't expect it to be a cure all. I had a horrible case of shingles several years ago and even the strongest prescription pain medication did little to control the pain. I also had the neuralgia for several years post shingles.

If you haven't already done so, get the shingles vaccine. If you're over 60 your insurance should pay for most of it (I had to pay a co-pay).

It may trigger it in some people but my immune system is functioning fine and I got it, Sometimes flukey things happen.

My grandmother had shingles and was hospitalized. She said it was like she was on fire!

A weak immune system can and does trigger shingles. I am sure other things like stress bring it out too.

I took care of my Mother when she had Shingles. I know how badly she suffered. I'm sorry you are hurting.

I just recently got the Shingles shot. My cat's Vet asked me every visit for months if I'd gotten the shot. His wife had Shingles in her inner ear. She almost died from it. It's been a few years and she still isn't right.

Please take care of yourself. Listen to your Dr (please go to the Dr's). It's fine to get ideas on how to feel better, but only a Dr really knows what to do.

Please keep us informed on how you are doing. I love your name (my oldest granddaughter is named Emily we call her emme.

You are always so kind her on these boards. Take care emmesmom.

Hi annabellethe cat!!! Love that name! I have had a bad couple of days, this is not fun, lol! I am so glad you got the shot! Thanks for your kind words! Sorry you mom had to go through this. My immune system is down so I have been taking some tinctures from Dr. Schultz. The tea tree oil was amazing and the blisters dried up and are disappearing. I am also taking 1000 mg of lysine daily, along with garlic and echinacea. I don't have health insurance so a shot isn't affordable for me! :-(

I love the name Emily! My little min pin's name is Emmy, and she hasn't left my side since I got sick. I love dogs so much! You are always kind on here too ! Stay well!!{#emotions_dlg.wub}
