One of the channels DH and I follow is 'NoCarbLife' on youtube. The guy who has this channel is Dave Mac. He literally has hundreds of inspirational videos about this lifestyle. I highly recommend folks who are curious and or want to learn about the benefits of this lifestyle, to follow the channel.
Today, one of the latest videos he uploaded was of a woman my age...in her 60's and she shares her journey. It pleased me that she echoed so many issues/points I have shared here on the forums for years!
The comforting bit is that I'm not by myself even though most on these forums think I fly some sort of 'freak flag' when I even hint of this lifestyle.
Anyway, for those interested or just curious, the title of the newly uploaded video (41 minutes long) I recommend is:

Too much protein in a person's diet can cause liver damage as protein is hard on this organ. Moderation is key here. My BIL is in liver failure in his mid 60's and had adopted this lifestyle. Granted, he drinks on occasion too, but he was told the high protein diet, and alcohol are hard on this organ. He is waiting on a liver transplant and may not live to see it, as he must adapt a healthier lifestyle before he can even be considered. As for the "low carb" they are finding that unrefined carbs are a must in our diet because it is critical for the brain and our hormones which both are critical in prevention of diseases. Those who are on statins where it is completley blocked, are starving the brain cells of cholesterol which is critical to these cellls, and without it they die off and are not replaced leading to Alzheimer's. I will take the advice of long term studies and Scientists, before that of any Influencer. That being said, to each their own and if this works for you or anyone else, go for it. But one should look at all the info that is out there to make a sound decision.

About 5 years ago, there was a poster here who insisted she was eating just POTATOES and that it was a very heathly diet and had all the nutrients one could possibly need.
You can imagine the responses.
It seemed to me that she was on the fast lane to malnutrition.
I wonder if she is still alive.

um, I'm on a statin and I doubt my physician would have prescribed it if it was dangerous as you say. the FDA would've pulled these off the market and the news of statins causing Alzheimer's would have made headlines worldwide

The thought of those that believe eating too much meat is bad and there should be 'moderation...eat the rainbow', doesn't know how the body actually functions/processes food.
I didn't learn about it myself til 2018 when we changed our lifestyle.
Carbohydrates and fiber are non-essentual...full stop.
Think about it...who pushes the carbs & fiber?
Big Food & Big Pharma. Who produces most of the carbs that are injested?
Big Food
Who wants folks to stay sick so they have to keep taking scripts or OTC meds?
Big Pharma
Both want to keep up and increase their profits. Don't believe it? If everyone got healthier and stopped eating all the ultra processed foods and got off all or most of their meds, they would both tank...which is what should happen. They do not care about your health. They do not want you to be healthy. Keeping you sick keeps their profits flowing in.
Absolute madness.
What are the majority of commercials/ads nowdays? Big Food - HIGHLY ADDICTIVE carb/sugar/grains/seed oil products...AND the constant new drugs for folks to take to keep everyone hooked.
And don't forget to add on add on ALL the new products being pushed by BigFood/Big Pharma that are adding probiotics & fiber to practically everything...OMG! In beverages...and even candy!!!
Folks really need to open their eyes...
Do you think our ancesters thousands of years ago kept track of carbs & fiber? That thought is laughable.
They ate mostly meat/seafood/fish...which is how our species survived. We didn't survive over these thousands of years by living on a diet mostly made for rabbits.
DH and I kick ourselves all the time for not waking up to this simple fact decades ago.
I'm glad we took off our rose colored glasses and woke up to the insanity - matrix.
I just share info with others from time to time so they can someday see this too. Sadly, many choose not to even open their eyes or minds.
***Side Note: Of coarse not all pharma products are bad or not useful. One example is type 1 diabetics need their insulin.
However, Type 2 diabetics can reverse their their diagnosis.
For the majority (not all) of pharma scripts, many folks can easily reduce what they take or get off of all/most of them by a change of diet.
My husband and I are living proof...
DH's A1C at the beginning of our journey was 13.5. It is now 4.9. He is off all of his meds now. I'm off of all of mine. BTW, Back then I had became pre-diabetic....not anymore.
Additionally, the number of health issues between both of us that are now gone can wrap around corners living this lifestyle.

@KittySoftPaws - can you point us to some scientific data that says we need "essential carbs"? There are definite essential amino acids, but they have actual names - histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. What's is the name of an essential carb?

@smoochy May sound unfounded to you, but I can assure you it isn't. There is much research and factual information on this out there if one is only interested in finding out all aspects of any extreme diet. As for Doctors, I have found out the hard way too many times that one must be their own healthcare advocate and not put all your faith in them. They are under too much control nowadays and very very few are ever trained in nutrition, only pharma drugs. And, there is way too much money to be made on pharma drugs. And while necessary for some things, far too many people are overprescribed on them and are more unhealthy because of it. Having worked with many older people over the years, the healthiest and longest living, were those on few or no pharma drugs at all.

@JeanLouiseFinch I actually said an "unrefined carb" such as a sweet potato or oatmeal, or an apple for just a few examples. When I said essential, I meant cholestrol is essential, and it is. The OP thinks I am talking about potato chips and cheetos I guess, and doesn't understand what unrefined vs. refined carbs are. I have omitted seed oils long ago, and I eat whole foods, but I eat a variety of them, and fish and seafood for protein. Cholesterol is crucial and essential in our bodies and the brain especially, and only really becomes an issue when the body is in a state of constant inflammation. Can be due to, lack of excercise, lack of sound sleep, lack of hormones,(menopause) medications, stress, poor diet, diseases, you get the picture. That's the point I'm trying to get across. I am one who has always questioned things, and never go with the crowd and it's served me well in my life many times. That, and I love to read about health and nutrition.

The only true carnivores are felines, and I have a bunch of them!
One of my canines always starts growling whenever he smells meat, but I also had a dog that would drool whenever he smelled cookies or cake--we teased him about his "sweet tooth!" Yes, dogs are omnivores.
Well, people can eat whatever they want, but I love having a varied diet with vegetables, fruits, carbohydrates, dairy and meat, etc.
It is not just the food that determines health, but also environment and lifestyle (and genes!).
As to eating, I follow the ancient Greek maxim at the Temple of Apollo in Delphi: "Nothing in Excess." (Another one was: "Know Thyself.")
I wonder why 40% of Americans are obese, and even more are overweight. Diet fads come and go constantly.
I do not have the time to watch Sally talk about her Carnivore eating journey, but I do not watch anyone talk about food, except Gordon Ramsay (how does he do those taste tests so well?).
