Re: Sepsis from trying on shoes

Maybe the Dr. offices get them later, but the drug stores have it.  I don't get the flu shot though.

I also never try on shoes without socks or footies.  It's a yuck factor, not just that someone else might've tried them on before, but I just find putting a bare foot in a shoe yucky.  Yes, I'm one of the holdouts that wears pantyhose with dress shoes.  I rarely wear sandals simply because my feet get cold.

According to today's news, TSA bins take the prize.  Even worse than airport toilets.  My poor little brain is working on processing this gem.  Would be nice to see where new shoes rank.  Has to be lower.  I. Just. Give. Up.

I know this subject is about Sepsis, but I thought I  could interject something. I'm sitting here with full blown Flu. Fever, chills, cough, headache all the fun. It's September 6th and I don't think the flu shot is even out yet. My point is with this little girl it could be anything.

Everyone this flu has really scared me, so everyone please be vigilante this year. It looks like it's going to be a bumpy ride.

@sweetee2, sorry you are suffering with the flu.

A relative of mine also has the flu.  I cannot remember what type but she was tested for it and put on Tamiflu.  The doctor told her they've seen quite a bit of it throughout the summer.

Re: Sepsis from trying on shoes

For all of us who use a sock or those stupid nylons they put out at places like DSW, Famous Footwear, etc. that are basically self service, what do you do once you get the shoes home?

It dawned on me that I always use something to try a shoe on while in the store but I don't clean the shoes when I get them home.  I put them on my feet, oftentimes with a bare foot depending on the shoe.

Are you all disinfecting your shoes when you get them home?

I would be concerned about this if I had a wound or broken skin on my feet and I usually don't.  Otherwise I usually wear socks with my shoes.

IMO, the blame lands squarely on the parent.  What was Mom or Dad thinking ?!?   What has happened to common sense ?

But the evil is not the shoes.

The pair of shoes is just an innocent vehicle to make an already

iffy situation (existing infection) to a full-blown issue.

It’s like the eColi issues with produce.

Yes, it’s a concern for everyone...especially the young, elderly

and those already ill, but good chances are healthy adults

will not get the same response as young/old/sick.

The story lead is....why did the parents allow this infection get that bad?

And did they know she was at risk?  Adding everything up, I would

guess there was a greater than zero chance she wasn’t wearing shoes

upon entering the store...if I could bet.

Nothing is safe these days. I do remeber always slipping on the liner especially

at a fancy shoe shoe years ago.

People still won't care. You go to Kohl's or any other store and they probably have

the liner in a cardboard box there too but I have never seen anyone use it when

I am shopping any way.

Germs/disease is everywhere especially when you have an open wound or small cut.

Gross!

Sepsis usually occurs when an area of the body is cut or infected and then it is an opening where Sepsis can occur when germs and such enter into the broken skin.

If I see a cut I immediately treat it to clean it out well and then I also cover it well with Neosporin  antibiodic cream also using a sterile covering and bandage so there is no opening where any germs may enter and inffect the area.

I also do keep it dry and change the bandages daily.

Yes I always try on shoes with socks and then take the shoes home and use clorox bleach on a bounty paper towel and wipe them first inside including any straps, and the the sides, and lastly turn them over and do the bottoms.

If the shoe has laces I disinfect them too.

Then I go over them with  a bounty towel and some plain water, and let them air dry well
