Re: Seasonal Allergies, I think I Have It.

Seasonal allergies depend on location. Most people talk about spring seasonal allergies, but in central Texas, we get Cedar Fever from late November through the end of January, then spring allergies after that.

And seasons cans start early or late or be milder than usual or worse based on the weather. We had a very warm January and spring flowers were starting to bloom in February.

In some cases, pollen levels can be so high that people without true allergies have an allergic-type response to the pollen just due to the high particulate count and having pollen flying into their eyes, nose, and mouth all day.

If you're having issues, I would check your local news for the pollen count and see if it's extra high where you are now. My local news has already told us that much of the east coast and central US will have much worse than normal allergy seasons because of the weather. If pollen levels are high and you're experiencing symptoms, you can spend less time outdoors, especially on windy days, keep windows closed, and get some air filters. You can also have a mechanic change the air and cabin filters in your car. On bad pollen days, doctors advise people to change their clothes and shower when they get home so that they don't get pollen all over the couch or sleep with pollen in their hair.

I found some allergy drops on Amazon called Texas Cedar Fever Allergy Drops. I'm adding this to daily Zyrtec and Steroid Allergy nose spray as needed. If really severe I rinse nose with saline. You have to take the prevention before the allergen/ pollen hits you.

@CrazyKittyLvr2   I was tested and am not allergic to anything. The Alergist said I have Vasso motor Rhinitis (sp?) which is the way the vessels in my nose react to certain things, like smoke, pollen, fragrances. It also happens when it's cold and I go from hot to cold, etc.

I take Claritin and use saline spray.
   Maybe you should be tested.

Your last sentence says all that one needs to know when unsure about these types of issues.

I am heading toward 70 and have never had an allergy in my life. Now, I realize anyone can develop an allergy at any time, but geez.

It has been unseasonally warm this winter and I am sneezing  my stupid head off, my nose is running, my eyes will water and makes my vision burry, my throat itches.

I thought I was getting sick last week but I haven't gotten worse like I would with a sinus infection.  I haven't had a regular cold in years and besides my colds always start with a terrible sore throat. Mine's just itchy.

Is it too early for this stuff?  I guess I think of late March, April and May as allergy spring allergy season.

I am thinking I am going through the same thing as you!  I start feeling better, then I get worse.  I am thinking it is due to the very mild winter we are having.  Oh, my -- this is lousy!  I went through a whole bottle of Flonase and felt some better.  Now a week later -- yuck.  Now I am taking Claritin and it's not doing much!

I, as well. Eyes burn, feels like i have cotton balls in my ears, and my nose, forget about it. Not old age, it's the season. I, look just lovely, just like my basset hound.

Re: Seasonal Allergies, I think I Have It.

I have dealt with seasonal allergies most of my life, but my DH has started to have much more symptoms late in life.  I would advise anyone to see a specialist if allergies are severely affecting your life.

My DD uses a Neti pot frequently to naturally flush her nose.  I hated using one, as I will always find a way to get myself soaked with water.  I bought a Navage unit and use it daily during allergy season.  It makes the process quick and easy.  I would encourage anyone to explore Neti pots or the Navage unit.  If you end up using either, remember the advice not to use tap water, only water commercially sold.  There could be serious repercussions if the water you use is not totally pure.  I am sure you can read about this, if you are interested.

My allergies are bothering me too. I hope you and everyone else who isn't feeling well, feels better soon.

My mom said she had seen in the paper that for our area anyway, allergies were going to be worse this year because we didn't have much of a winter.

Re: Seasonal Allergies, I think I Have It.

My mother was I'll back in October, she fell, was in the hospital, then rehab, home for 6 days, back in the hospital ( she has passed). Anyway I wasn't taking care of myself, I got a terrible cold, since the cold back in November or so I have had an irritated throat ( not a sore throat) that causes me to cough. I went to my primary care physician, he pretty much put me off, he looked at my throat and said I could have allergies. The condition has persisted, I finally called an ENT, I won't see him until March 31. I was self diagnosing myself on the internet ( bad idea), said it could be acid reflux ( I don't think it is I don't have heartburn), diseased tonsils, or an allergy. Aside from taking Claritin and cough drops, I don't know what else I can take til I see the doctor.

No, don't think it's too early.  Mine usually starts mid-April but symptoms appeared about 2 weeks ago.  Never had allergies until I turned 70 and here I am 10 years later and they still come every darn year.

Re: Seasonal Allergies, I think I Have It.

I did the allergy shots for several years back in the 90's and finally got to the point of only two sinus infections per year for about 15 years.  This past 12 months have been horrible since Christmas alone I have done 5 Z-paks and finally did doxycycline to get rid of the sinus infection.  Much better after all this time but the new antibiotic almost did me in with dry heaves and other side effects.  I was so happy with the Zpak for so long.

Now every day I am on Flonase, Sudafed, and the Dr. also recently prescribed Singulair nightly since it helps with allergies too.
