I had it very bad many many years ago. I had a MRI and then a upper epidural injection was performed.
I asked the doctor how long the relief from pain would last after receiving the injection. He said from not at all to a lifetime! I guess I may be "lifetime" as I only occasionally suffer from pain now. If I do have pain, I do back exercises and that always works and the pain is gone within a day or two. Good luck to you.

Yes, off and on for years. Most helpful things, a Physical Therapy consult to show you stretches and possible release the nerve from the tightness of the muscles in your buttocks. Rest on my side with a pillow between my knees, sometimes advil type meds, tylenol, tramadol and last resort lortab.
