Was just diagnosed with this yesterday. A week or so ago, it was so painful that I almost couldn't walk in the grocery store. I too 2 baby aspirin x2 per day until I got to the doctor. It reduced the pain but did not eliminate it.
I have a prescription for generic Celebrex (Celecoxib) and was told to use Salonpas patches. If it doesn't work, may end up w/xrays. It's on the side where I have -8% bone loss on my last bone density.

@cindyNC This was recommended to me by a nurse and of all people a guy at a car dealership...It has been a godsend..I have had a couple bad cases of Sciatica..It really helps..and it's not that expensive

My husband had it bad a few years ago and he was referred to a pain management doctor that gave him a shot and what a difference.
I got it recently but I can't do needles so I went to my acupuncturist with massage and at least I can walk and drive again.

I've had it with intense pain from a ruptured disc. Ice did not help. Even Vicodin did not help me.
My suggestions: Get the doctor to write you script for Physical Therapy. Also, get a script for Gabapentin, a nerve pain reliever.
Third, get a book or just research The McKenzie Protocol. Sciatica can just be poor posture over time ( forward leaning) , causes they discs to compress on your sciatic spinal nerve, triggering the leg muscles to constantly contract.
This book shows you exercises to increase the space between the discs and the sciatic nerve-

Mine started about 6 years ago.
My GP sent me to a pain mainagement doc. He gave me various options for "managing the pain." He said to try them all to see which works best for me. He also sent me to physical therapy ... where I got more suggestions.
He offered me a prescription, but I won't take any "drug" stronger than Tylenol.
Once you find the best method for yourself ... pain management is rather easy.
MOST IMPORTANT IS TO REMAIN ACTIVE ... GET OUT AND WALK EVERY DAY.

See your primary care Dr. Its common and there can be different causes. Others' experience and medication are not relevant to your case.

DH had that. He did stretches to get some relief. It finally went away 2-3 months later. He still does the stretches.

I have sciatica every day in my right hip, down my right buttock and into the back of my thigh, all the way to my knee. It is terrible and at times it takes a toll. Please, please, do not take prescription narcotic pain pills. They are so easy to become addicted to and who needs that? I use a TENS unit on my low back and it helps a lot. Also, when you go to bed at night, place a bed pillow under the back of your knees, this takes the pressure off your low back where the sciatica originates. Also, if you are in the habit of crossing your legs or crossing your ankles either while laying down or sitting, stop that habit immediately. When you cross your legs, or ankles, you create tension in your low back and it can make sciatica much worse or bring on a nasty round of it. You can Google where to place the TENS unit if you are not sure. Good luck!

Re: Sciatica, I had sciatica once. Very painful. Used Frankincense Essential Oil. Use a carrier oil with it such as Almond oil, Jojoba oil, Grape Seed oil, Olive oil, the olive oil can sometimes smell and then it doesn't smell so good with the Frankincense oil. Then rub on the area of the pain. You will naturally get the Frankincense oil on your hands, leave it on your hands and inhale it. Do this a few more times in a 3-4 hour widow. That is what I did and it went away and it never came back. I didn't measue it. I would say whatever carrier oil you use, use about 1/4 cup . Then add 10-15 drops of Frankincense essentiall oil then stir it with your finger, then apply to the area. Don't be stingy, put on a good amount. Wear something that you won't care if you get oil on it. Feel better. If the sciatica dosn't lift and still in pain seek medical attention.
