I am suffering with a bout of sciatica in my left leg.  Back is perfectly fine but that nerve running behind my knee and calf is definitley pinched.  I have been doing some specific exercises (not helping) and had to put on hold for a few days my Classical Stretch routines. Started up again and  if I do them before my leg acts up then I am good..  Seeing chiro and pt starts next week.  I do feel better even though I need to "modify" some of the moves with Miranda.

@bargainsgirl Sorry your going through that, not fun.  Hang in there & I'm hoping the PT/chiro helps; I know when I'm having issues I have to change up my exercise routine as I know when something is sore I can't do my regular.

My brother is a chiropractor and saved me more than once from sciatica. Have you seen a reputable one?

I truly feel for you!  I have back issues a lot and am currently in the midst of one of my bouts!  Ugh --- so miserable!  And I do at times have sciatica as well.  This is just horrible pain.  I truly do wish you the best.  I am currently going to chiro - again!

Re: Sciatica and exercise

[ Edited ]

Many years back, my PT was followed by exercises in a warm water pool.  It helped a great deal.  I still deal with a "touchy"

back, but I know how to deal with it.  I take Lessman's "Turmeric 400 Curcumin" daily and wouldn't be without it.

I have a couple DVDs I purchased by Miranda Esmonde-White, and I look forward to doing her exercises.  I purchased them from Amazon.  My days at a gym are over, and I look forward to stretching instead.  I also purchased one of her books, "Aging Backwards."  And the DVD "Mobility & Bone Strengthening For Beginners" is a winner.

Went into this detail for those unfamiliar with Miranda.

PT is the best exercise for sciatica.  Good luck with it!  When I'm in PT I make it my daily workout because the PT I go to typically gives me progressively tougher exercises.

@PamfromCT.  What does the tumeric do for you?  How long does it take to see results?

@Kachina624, I do believe it has helped alleviate some pain.

You do need to have both ingredients combined, rather than straight tumeric.  My PCP is now on board and advising people try it.  I buy mine from HSN when it is on sale,  but you can buy from Lessman's website or Amazon.  He manufactures in the USA, in Arizona.  One factory, which is why it is sold in limited places.  I learn so much when he is on HSN.  The only way to learn if it helps you would be a trial period.  Wish I could give you a concrete answer!

@Kachina624, I should have mentioned I also take Lessman's "Glucosamime 150 - Chondroitin 1200."  But less than 5 capsules a day, which he advises.  All of his products are easy-to-swallow capsules - no "horse pills."  I take quite a few supplements, really!  The Queen of Supplements, and a doctor for every body part.  Gotta laugh!
