A friend recommend this site (SIRUM dot org) as a place to donate unwanted prescription drugs.  They must not be opiates, no more than 5 months till expiration date, be sealed -- cannot donate any meds in the brownish containers from the drug store -- must be in the original sealed mfgr. pack.  Apparently these drugs will be available to those who cannot afford them.

My husband just passed away and we have so many of the drugs he took for Parkinsons.  As the cost of them were very expensive, i hate the thought of them just being trashed.  Donating would be the right thing to do.

If any of you have used this site or heard of it, would you please offer some opinions -- good or bad.

I am so sorry for your loss.  I'm sure this is a challenging time for you. Even though the prescriptions represent a significant investment, I would highly suggest that it is best not to donate drugs, sealed or otherwise.  My prayers are with you and your family.

What a kind act on your part. I am familiar with SIRUM, as part of an organization that donated and a volunteer in a clinic that received donations.

There are strict guidelines on what you can donate. It’s also governed by what is allowed in each state, some states do not allow for individual donors only organizations. You would need to look at their website to find out about the laws in your state. I believe the donation process is pretty simple. You do pay shipping. You can print your own shipping label.

They are a reputable organization and they receive medication donations from hospitals, pharmacies, medical offices, etc. Medication needs to be at least 5 to 6 months before expiration and in original packaging. You can remove patient info or mark out with a Sharpie.

@bikerbabe Thank you for your positive reply.  I quickly looked at the website and "thought" it was a legit operation, but it's nice and comforting to hear another opinion.  I will look closely at the site to determine if I can donate and I sure hope that I can.  These meds are too costly to just toss or let them sit on a shelf.  It's too bad I don't know anyone who is prescribed the same Rx's.  Thanks, again.

Got my package off to SIRUM today and so happy I did.  Hopefully, someone can use them and they won't go to waste.  What a relief!!!
