I've had it for several years. Iron deficiency can be a culprit. My dr. Said the ins.companies want them to test for iron, before prescribing anything. It can be very annoying. Good luck!

My middle daughter has this. We'd be sitting in our car (three girls in the back seat) and she'd have to sit in the middle because she'd have to straighten out and bend her legs (she called it crack them). The Pediatrician told us what it was when she was young.

She also gets bad leg pain. We took her to Children's Hospital (you have no idea every time my girls got sick my late husband took them to Children's Hospital in DC and they always knew the answers). They diagnosed her and told us to try to watch the amount of gluten she ate.

Also, I know this is different, but all three of my girls (along with me) have dairy allergies. One thing that helps this daughter with her leg pain and the need to move and crack her legs is if she very drastically limits the amount of dairy she eats.

For instance, if she wants pizza, if she doesn't scrape off almost all of the cheese within 1 or 2 days (sometimes hours) she'll experience these same symptoms.

I don't know if any of this helps, I think it's trial and error.

Iron deficiency can, definitely cause it. But also take a look at any medications. I was on one for my appetite and it gave me insomnia and restless leg. When I stopped the next night no restless leg.

I know that taking Magnesium has helped me with this. Dr. Weil recommends taking calcium citrate (500 mg.) and Magnesium (about 250 mg) to help with this problem.

What does it feel like? My mother used to describe it as "jim-jams." I describe it is an deep ache, but not a pain, that is relieved by movement. It is not the same as a muscle ache that you would get from exercise nor a tingle like your legs going to sleep.

I don't take medication, but I always take Advil before a concert, flight, or long car trip as a preventative. And I take one Advil PM every night before bed.

I have RLS due to iron deficiency. I've had it for years. Sometimes I also have it in my arms with a constant need to move them. I take klonopin and that takes care of it.

I have RLS and I feel the need to constantly move my feet and legs when I am relaxing. I don't have any pain with it. I don't take any medication for it

You're going to think I'm making this up but I assure you I'm not. My mother suffered from this for a while. Her doctor told her to take a Children's Flinstone Vitamin with Iron. Worked like a charm. I kid you not. Give it a try, I hope it works for you.

Does Advil contain acetaminophen? if it does be cautious taking it every night. My aunt did this with Tylenol PM after my uncle died to help her sleep and was denied life insurance; they said her risk of liver damage was too high due to taking it nightly.
