I just want to say that I'm a nurse too. At least, I still have a nursing license. I became a Special Education Teacher when my sons were young and I'm now retired. Sometimes it's helpful to ask others what it is they do for some ailments. Doctors aren't always helpful and many have a narrow view for treatments. I have a Hiatal Hernia and I have gotten more valuable information from people on Facebook and YouTube than I have from my Gastroenterologist(I told her just that too). To the point that I've been able to alleviate my palpitations and cut back on my medication. Her only suggestions were drugs and surgery. I'm not saying a doctor is not necessary but sometimes talking to others with the same condition can give you more insight and inform you as to what questions to ask your doctor. It doesn't hurt to ask others what works for them. Just saying.

Thank you for your responses. I wrote them down and will give them to her. She went to a chiropractor and she also had accupuncture today. Hopefully she can sleep tonight.
Also she's on call, so if anyone has fallen, or is dying, she'll be called out tonight maybe, so we pray she won't, and can sleep.

I have the same issue. I eat a banana every day. Potassium pills do nothing for me but one banana stops the jerking legs at night. Wearing wool socks at night helps too.. I can't falll asleep with the socks on but I wear for a while before I go to sleep the warmth seems to help.

Low Ferrtin can definitely cause RLS. I'd have her get blood work including ferritin (because doctors rarely regularly check that).

magnesium citrate--I take 420mg just before bed. It really works.

@gloriajean She needs to talk with her doctor and get a prescription. Over the counter meds and supplements do nothing for restless leg syndrome (RLS). I've had it for years. Ropinirole or gabapentin will stop it completely. I no longer have it due to these drugs. There's no reason to suffer with it.

my husband is a nurse also and is running all day long and has restless legs and feet at night. the only thing that has helped is when i massage them and his feet. he says his legs and feet hurt so bad and they're always kicking if they're not rubbed and massaged. where he works and his position in the hospital, they won't let him wear sneakers, but has to wear dress shoes, so i understand why his legs and feet are hurting.
i'll do anything to give him some relief.
