I broke my femur on NYE. It was a comminuted femoral shaft break. It required two trips via ambulance, two emergency room visits, hospital stay, surgery and quite a bit of physical therapy so far.. The bill, as of right now, is over $200,000. I am very thankful for good insurance where so far I have only had to pay just over $200. I couldn't imagine being without.

i broke my femur two years ago while walking my dog! Surgery, 7 weeks in rehab. They tell you to put 25% of your weight on that leg. I really don't know what 25% of my weight is. The good news is heals very well with no future problems. Good luck.

One of my nephews broke his ankle and one mess up his achilles tendon a week apart. Two different States. Both had surgery.
They both ordered knee bikes and that's what they used to get around. Those things are great.

OHHHH I am so sorry you broke yours as well!! I could never have imagined what a person goes through who has broken it, it has been frustrating for sure. I am thankful your recovery went well and you don't have any issues. I am hoping for that for myself!!!

You are very lucky not to have had to pay anything even for surgery. I thought Medicare at least had co-pays. Mine sure does.

Pray, pray, pray that we'all get to keep our Medicare, AS IS, AS STABLE, AS WONDERFUL as it already is)!
(altho my 22+ yr Specialist MD changed to doesnt accept Medicare, so 'out of pocket" OV, is hundred$ costs for me)
I also have expensive, extraordinary Secondary Ins Coverage to Medicare. Never paid a dime, incl for Ambulance, Hospital, ER, OV, Labs, some petty $ for Meds etc
Incredible Medical Costs for just about any/all Medical Services to any one.
I dont know how ppl pay that dont have any Medical Coverage!
Medical Coverage is the first question Hospitals ask the patient! Many times, same Ins question with Doc's Ofc's
Thank goodness COVID inj was free (to any ppl who opted for it)! Imagine free coverage arraignments for possible coverage for up to 3 Mil interested ppl??
My Ins covered it. But I saw non Ins price, flat out cost, w/o ins, wouldnt have been cheap for no Ins ppl either!

Even with Medicare and the best supplemental insurance, it is possible to get a bill.
Most states allow the provider who is not in the Medicare network to bill the amount between what Medicare allowed and the amount billed. This is called the Medicare Part B excess charge.
Only in eight states, providers are not allowed to bill for this.
If you have an older Medicare supplement, the excess fee may be covered. These plans are no longer offered, but some people are grandfathered in.
Also, most supplements do not cover the Medicare Part B deductible which is $226 unless you have an older plan grandfathered in or a group policy through your employer.

I was one of those who were Grandfathered in, cont'd from yrs of Disability Medicare. Let's see how long this lasts. I like it.

Everyone's Traditional Medicare has copays and deductibles. Everyone.
Some people have supplemental coverge that will cover these copy's and deductibles, but our government will not allow supplemental coverage to be sold that covers the Medicare Part B deductible anymore to new enrollees after January 1, 2020.
In addition, if the doctor does not accept Medicare assignment, you can be charged an excess fee. Only eight states do not allow this.
They are MN, MA, VT, PA, CT, OH, NY and RI.
You can avoid this fee if your provider excepts Medicare, but sometimes you have little choice.
