I feel for you.  I had never had a back issues and I don't think anyone can fully sympathize until they do.  Then one day my 65 pound dog hurt herself and I picked her up and OMG.  The pain in my back was so bad, I almost dropped her.

Ever since then, at least once I year, my muscles in my back tighten up and I'm down for a couple of days.  And the dumbest things will cause this to happen. The most recent episode was bending over to dry my feet after a shower.  I forced myself to keep going and get to work but the drive there was very unpleasant. Then I sat in my chair and when I went to get up, I couldn't.  One of my co-workers ran to the drugstore to get me those icy hot patches for the back.  Within about 15 minutes, my muscles had loosened enough for me to get up.  That night the spasms were so bad, they were waking me up out of a sound sleep.
