@Icegoddess   I'm sorry, but that doesn't look like a blackhead to me.  When I've had those, they were always very tiny, and not really that black.  I know they say that a melanoma should be bigger than a pencil eraser, and have an irregular border, which I don't think this has.  It's so hard to tell without an in person look.....makes me wonder how well this new telemedicine can work.

@2blonde

DH's derm showed us a big chart of a lot of melanoma's in different colors, sizes and shapes.

DH's don't get as big a pencil eraser (before we catch them) and not all are irregular shaped either there's a lot of variations.

DH's Dad died from melanoma that spread to his brain, so DH is checked once a month.

I'm not saying that's the OP's case, but it's nothing to play around with and shouldn't be ignored, just in case.

I think it is never a good idea to let someone who isn't a Dr ,diagnose your problems ,on a forum. You get what you pay for, don't hold your heath so cheap

I guess I don't understand why it's necessary to hold out for a dermatologist.  I can't imagine any quallified doctor who can't at least diagnose it for you.  Then advise you whether or not it's necessary to see a dermatologist.

@Krimpette

I agree, he can evaluate it and refer you to a Derm and get you a quicker appointment, if he deems it 'suspicious'.

First of all . You should see a doctor . Does it hurt ?. Does it itch?Did you have a mole there?Its hard to tell . It could be a blackhead but its shiny like a mole. It does have irregular borders.Don't squeeze it . I had a mole that fell off . It left a red area that was scaly and a little  bit itchy . There was a red spot [scaly ] that incresed in size . I thought it was psoriasis because I have psoriasis . I mentioned it to my doctor and he decided to do a biopsy as a precaution . It was a basil cell cancer right over my carotid artery . I had the moh's procedure done and it was removed . Gone . All is well . It seemed innocuous but it was cancer,

Don't worry.  I'm not leaving my diagnosis up to the forums.  Just wanted to see if there was a concensus of opinion.  I don't watch Dr. PP, but for those that do, I thought I might get a bunch of people saying one way or another from what they had seen on the show.

I have a call in to my Doctor and they will get me an appointment when they get their computers back up.

I am a melanoma survivor and my father died from melanoma...if there is ANY chance it might be melanoma you need to be seen - preferably by a dermatologist.  My PCP said mine was definitely not melanoma and I should not worry - apparently PCPs don't always see enough of it to recognize it.   Fortunately our cat kept putting his nose on the mole so I eventually I went to a dermatologist who confirmed melanoma.  Things moved very quickly after that point.  Thank goodness for that cat!

Try calling the dermatologist's office and tell them you are worried you might have a melanoma on your back and can't see it very well.  They may get you in quickly.

Unfortunately, I have found that most of the money derms make these days is through cosmetic appointments with payment out-of-pocket.  Sadly, regular/insurance medical appointments often take a back seat and get booked far out.  However, I have found that if you think you have a melanoma they will usually try to get you in for a cancelled appointment ASAP; they don't want the liability of having refused that kind of help (verses noncancerous skin issues).  Give it a try.  That will give you peace of mind, it is smarter to be seen by the specialist who knows exactly what it looks like, and it will establish you with that derm as a existing patient in the future.

Snarky responders need not reply. Move along and share your views elsewhere.
