I offered to pick up a friend after a colonoscopy. He called me right after he said he finished and told me I didn't have to go get him because the doctor told him he could return by himself in the bus (public transportation - he rides all the time). It's about a 30 mins. ride and some walking involved.
I don't think he had a colonoscoy and that is why he didn't need anyone to get him.
Do you know of anyone who has been allowed to return from a colonoscopy like that? Late 60s, very mobile, no cancer history.
TIA!
When I had my colonoscopy I was put in a wheelchair and wasn't released until my ride parked in front of the hospital. I have never heard of allowing someone to take the bus after the procedure.

The logical answer is her friend did not have sedation. And, yes, there are facilities that allow patients to have the procedure without anesthesia.

I've never heard of this before. They always ask about your person who will be driving you home after. Even though it's only twilight sleep it's still anesthesia.

I should have noted that too @Nonametoday. It sounded very in the past. That is impressive!

I think taking public transportation would be just as bad as driving. I guess you don't put others at risk just walking and taking a bus, but what about the patient with anesthesia????
Here, the person is just required to pick the person up. He said they took him early because someone else didn't show, so he was done early, and I didn't need to go get him. I would have been happy to get him. In fact I offered to do it, he didn't ask. 🤔 🤔 🤔

@Carolina925 Wow 4 in one summer!
My friend rides public transportation all the time. I do too, by the way, but more cab rides than him. Having a car in Manhattan New York is only for the superwealthy, people with drivers, or people who don't mind driving around for hours to find a parking spot. I have a friend who is a judge who drives but that is because of the threats to her life, which is the life of a judge who handles criminal cases. The Court provides parking for the judges.
My other friends with cars live in the Bronx or outside NYC. Some people rent cars for specific days. I don't drive at all.
But picking him up was no trouble. I offered to do it without him asking.

Don't start rumors. His medical issues and tests are none of your business.
That said, it depends on sedation. If he was sedated during a procedure, even if for a few minutes, he shouldn't drive home or take a bus. But who is going to stop him.
I am wide awake and alert after a colonoscopy but don't drive because I don't want to take a chance.
@CalminHeart I am not starting rumors. No one here knows who he is. I haven't talked about it with anyone and, frankly wouldn't tell anyone because it's not their business! But I think my conversation with him is my business, I don't mind if you have a different opinion. He told me about his physical, volunteered he had to have the procedure, he was not happy, I offered to pick him up, and he took me up on it, so I think him telling me about it, me offering to pick him up and him accept it made it a little bit my business.
And you told me about your procedure!
I need the procedure as well and was wondering why I am required to have someone pick me up, and he didn't. So I thought I would ask posters' experiences. Just odd that he was allowed to come back by himself, and I am not. We both live in Manhattan, Manhattan doctors, Manhattan labs. Different ones though.

I hope you are doing well @NigelSparkles. I know a colon cancer survivor and it's no fun.
I am in NY too. I am just required to have someone pick me up. I assume he was the same, which is why I offered to pick him up. Now I am thinking maybe he didn't have it because neither of us realized the company (ME!) had to be there at the beginning and maybe he didn't want to tell me that. That would be very him. He is just a friend.
