Anesthesia is given based on weight, height and there is a 20% over- or underestimation.  Men have more muscle mass than women.  Of course, there are exceptions.  However, if you give a woman 3 glasses of alcholic beverages and a man the same amount.  Who is more likely to become anebriated?

@Nonametoday How is giving 3 drinks of the same size to 2 people of different sizea comparable to anesthesia administered based on height and weight?

@NYCLatinaMe   You're a smart lady. I omitted that these people are of the same weight and height, and age.

Thanks and yes I am fine. My son had rectal bleeding for a year and didn't tell me. It wasn't until he finally went to the Urgent care and they did a colonoscopy that he was diagnosed. He had surgery and the doctor recommended I get the test which came back showing I had a huge polyp which turned out to be cancer so I had surgery also. My daughter who was only 24 was encouraged to get a colonoscopy since my son was only 35 and they found a small non cancerous polyp.

@CalminHeart You have posted twice in this thread giving me instructions.  🤔🤔🤔

No big deal. At my age, I'm a little forgetful sometimes. One was a response and one was the first message. Either way, it didn't change the world.

Thanks @Nonametoday.  I am asking because my doctor wouldn't let me.  I am pretty mobile too, and honestly, I would take a cab, which my doctor wouldn't accept.  So I was very surprised.  Maybe this is a man-woman thing?  I look forward to hearing from others!

@NYCLatinaMe  The reason they do not allow people to leave on their own - driving, walking, cab, bus, etc - is because of the drugs that are given prior to the colonoscopy. It has nothing to do with one's sex or fitness level.  Perhaps they were not given drugs that cause problems... Then again, I never noticed any side effects after a colonoscopy & am sure I'd have been able to drive myself home just fine.

A person who has had a colonoscopy also has been fasting for 24 hours. Some people might be weak due to a lack of food.

Re: Question about colonoscopies

It may depend upon what type of sedative they give you; some people don't get anything but some who are anxious may be given something that could make driving themselves home right after the procedure dangerous.

I was always starving after the colonoscopies I have had so have DH drive me and then take me out to eat. I could probably drive myself home but wouldn't try it.

@NYCLatinaMe , I am in Canada.  You are not permitted to drive and must be accompanied from the procedure here.

@Lilysmom1 I thought so too but last winter, my son (who lives in Canada) not only drove himself to and from his colonoscopy, he went off the road, into the ditch, and got stuck in a snowbank on his way home and had to dig himself out!

Re: Question about colonoscopies

@Texasmouse Maybe your son didn't have anyone to drive him for the appointment. That can be a problem for some people.

Also, if someone wants to leave by themselves after a colonoscopy how can the hospital stop them? As far as I understand the patient has a right to leave whenever they wish with or without help, although there may be circumstances for the choice.
