Also, if someone wants to leave by themselves after a colonoscopy how can the hospital stop them? As far as I understand the patient has a right to leave whenever they wish with or without help, although there may be circumstances for the choice. 


@teganslaw if the patient can't "prove" beforehand that they have someone with them to drive them home they won't do the procedure at all.

You are right.  When my mother had her colonoscopies I had to sign a form saying that I was her driver to take her home after the procedure.  They would not perform the procedure before the signing of the form.

@Texasmouse What an awful experience for your son.  In my location you have to have someone be there when you register for the procedure and they have to stay in the bldg.  They take that person's cell and call them to pick you up.  Otherwise they won't do the procedure.
