Clem, I had cataract surgery this past Februaury, both eyes. My surgeon had me take the bandages off the first night, but, I wore a plastice eye piece over my eyes at night, to keep me from touching them.
I had no problems, a little discomfort with one eye, and only for a few hours.
I was told I could walk and do regular chores, but, no heavy lifting or bending.
the day after I had to go see the doctor, he checked my eye.
I also have two dogs, my sister kept care of them the first night.
If you're concerned about your kitty and taking care of him/her, why don't you board your cat for two days? I often do this when I'm having a medical procedure.
My vet also boards for his clients.
This way I know my dogs are taken care of, fed and exercised. It's usually an enviroment they know, may not like, but, they know you're coming back for them.
Good luck!
