Quaker Oats Granola Bars Recalled

Quaker quinoa granola bar recall

Next time you grab a quick granola bar for breakfast, make sure you check your label. Quaker Oats has issued a recall of its quinoa granola bars because of possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The company discovered the issue after the supplier of its sunflower kernels found contamination in their products.

Luckily, most products affected by the possible contamination never made it onto store shelves, according to Quaker. But here are the products that did:

6.1 ounce boxes of Quaker Quinoa Granola Bars Chocolate Nut Medley

  • UPC: 30000 32241
  • Best Before Dates: 10/16/2016, 10/17/2016

6.1 ounce boxes of Quaker Quinoa Granola Bars Yogurt, Fruit & Nut Medley

  • UPC: 30000 32243
  • Best Before Dates: 10/10/2016, 10/11/2016

No illnesses have been reported yet, but Quaker is issuing the recall voluntarily as a precaution. If you have the contaminated granola bars, you should throw them away or return them to the store for a full refund. If you have any questions, call Quaker at 1-800-856-5781 during normal business hours on Mondays through Fridays. You can also find more information on their website.

Listeria infections sicken around 1,600 people every year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and it is the third leading cause of death from food poisoning. Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal symptoms. It's most dangerous for pregnant women, babies, older adults, and anyone with a compromised immune system.

Re: Quaker Oats Granola Bars Recalled

@truffle THANKS for the warning.  My son, DIL and family are heading out for a long road trip tomorrow morning.  She's big on quinoa, so I sent this warning to her.
