I strongly feel we each have to do what we think is best for us.
I medicate based on my diagnosed issues, as well as keeping family history in mind. I asked my doctor for a low dose BP medication as a preventive measure. I do not have high BP, but do not want to develop the condition. My mother has had a mini stroke, both of her siblings had strokes, as did their dad. My maternal grandmother lost 75% of her hearing by the time she was 50, due to HBP.
I also treat my pre-diabetes aggressively, as I have seen over a 20 year span with my husband what a wait and see approach does with diabetes.

On the issue of supplements. In my nursing days many patients would ask one of the physicians I worked with about otc supplements. He would always advise not taking any because many contain amphetamines.
Just an observation of those who have lived a long life. Those who live well into their nineties/one hundred do not take prescription meds. Is that good genes or or not taking meds?
I do take 4 prescriptions meds.
Genes? Lifestyle? Response to stress?
There are many factors that contribute to longevity.

Used to deal with hypertension.....the prescribed Lisinopril made me very ill. I would have to visit the ER unable to breathe with a severe cough. It was the pharmacist who told me about the negative side effects of this drug. After many trials ...the only thing that has worked for me is Carditone. And it has worked for so many others without side effects. I am so grateful not to be living with the horrible effects of Lisinopril. I take no prescribed drugs....I use diet, exercise, healthy life style to live illness free.

Are dietary supplements approved by FDA?
No. Dietary supplement manufacturers and distributors are not required to obtain approval from FDA before marketing dietary supplements. Before a firm markets a dietary supplement, the firm is responsible for ensuring that
- the products it manufactures or distributes are safe
- any claims made about the products are not false or misleading
- the products comply with the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and FDA regulations in all other respects
@cherry Many do not bow down to the FDA. Many who work for the FDA have stock in the pharmaceutical companies..... hmmm....
