@LexaMom, I only take kind and it's not too expensive (right now, anyway). I do CVS mail order and before I retired I had insurance through my job, it cost me $15 for five little vials. Now, it cost me $38 through the mail for five of the same vials, same brand. It lasts me about six months.
So sorry you are also living through Glaucoma. I see my opthalmologist every 3 months and he has switched my drops many times. Also tried laser trabulectomy which kept me off drops for about 8 months. Right now I'm on Combigan and Travatan-Z (and there are no generics for either). My Medicare Part D prescription program charges $70 for 3 vials of Travatan, and $70 for 5 vials of Combigan Not that bad. The problem is the donut-hole where I have to pay full price. I'm still so grateful to have the drops to control anymore loss of vision. My three sisters are also using Glaucoma drops since it does run in families. God Bless.
And God bless you @LexaMom. I see my ophthalmologist every four months for a thorough exam. I also have something called Fuch'sCorneal Dystrophy which I take no medication for. It's minor but is being watched.
Your eye drops must be name brands, therefore, very expensive. Yours must be very aggressive or not caught in time. I can't even tell that I have it.
I'm so much like mother that I expected to get glaucoma since I'm so much like her, lol. I pray I don't get the cervical cancer that she died from.

She is right. Red yeast rice is touted to lower cholesterol. It can cause kidney damage
I would rather take a scrip than fool around with over the counter stuff

I am 62, and take no prescription meds. I just started taking a supplement for my arthritis, to soon to see if it helps.

To be honest, I've never had any symptoms either (altho I keep failing the field vision tests - hah!) . I went to the opthalmologist due to a different problem - started having flashes in the corner of my eye in the dark. It was apparently due to vitreous detachment - as you get older, the vitreous starts pulling away from the back of your eye. During that timeframe, he found that there was damage to my optic nerve and he has been controlling my pressures ever since. I'm grateful for the flashes now.

Early 60's here. I have various auto-immune conditions and take hypertensive drugs, thyroid meds, blood sugar lowering meds, RA meds and meds for my heart...they are the only reason I am still alive. Without them I would be dead. For all those who want to go natural...some of us don't have the option of doing so. I just thank my lucky stars I live in a time where these pharmaceuticals are available to keep me alive and active. And because of them I can live a life where I can drive, leave the house and socialize... Not taking them would mean living a sub-standard existence. My choice..

I am happy to say that I am doing my best to take care of my health as I get older. I use means that I research and I believe are safe and efficacious, whether they are lifestyle changes, specific foods to eat or avoid, or prescriptions medications.
Taking "herbs," aka unregulated meds, is simply gambling with your health. Someday, hopefully, the entire supplement industry will be regulated in this country. Until then, I'm going with what I can verify on the basis of clinical studies.
Crowing about failing to take medication that can ward off unseen, permanent damage to your entire body and set you up for things like strokes is not admirable, it's shameful in a senior citizen. I know; I've paid the price for this kind of foolishness. I learned that my stubbornness does not remake the laws of nature. Take a page from my book.

My mom was prescription free well into her eighties. Medical providers could not believe it, but it is true. No longer true, unforunately, at age 91.

I had to smile...you sound like my medical twin. The only difference is my athritis is osteoarthritis. I wouldn't have the life I have or be the person I am if were not for the drugs and supplements I take.

I had a flare of carpel tunnel syndrome last week but because I have heart disease I can't take the usual anti-inflammatories. I was able to drive again this morning so I am hopeful. Like yourself, I refuse to give in and I take advantage of every medical solution that will add quality to my life...
