Props to help us with arthritis

I'm having a heck of a time with shampoo and toothpaste. Anything that needs squeezing. I hate waste so this topic came up. Do you have items that help you get to the bottom of shampoos and toothpastes?

I use a gripper to open jar lids, so this is the type of thing I need ideas on.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

QualityGal - You can buy tube squeezers at some art supply stores/sites. I've seen some for about a dollar. I have a very good one that I use for my paint tubes that cost about $25. Try Jerrys Art-O-Rama dot com.

Thank you Bev, that's what I was after. I'd checked at some web sites but they only had large things to order. I just needed that little key-like thing. Thanks, I'll check for it!

Re: Props to help us with arthritis

I've seen packages of toothpaste tube squeezers on display with the toothpaste/toothbrush products at my King Soopers (Krogers). They look a little bit like a key, with a part that slides onto the bottom of the tube, then you just roll the tab end (think about the old way to open a can of coffee or Spam). I'm sure they don't cost much.

As for the shampoo, I'd get some of those squeeze bottles that are used for catsup & mustard. I think I've also seen those at the grocery store, on the aisle that has cooking utensils, etc. At the very least, you should be able to find those at Target, Walmart, maybe Dollar Store, etc.

I found that I stopped using several hair & skin care products for that very reason - the bottles were too hard to squeeze out the products.

I keep empty pump bottles from various products and transfer shower gel, Purity cleanser, etc. into those pump bottles with a kitchen funnel. Nothing frustrates me more than to have hot water running down the shower drain while I'm trying to get liquid soap onto my shower puff. Same goes with shampoo and conditioner. We are on a well in an area with a decreasing water table. If it keeps going down, we and all of our neighbors will have to drill new wells.

Re: Props to help us with arthritis

I have arthritis in my hands and have a hard time squeezing, too. I use those tube squeezer thingys sold in dollar stores and similar places. You can also cut the tube in half when it's pretty well used up and reach in for the rest of the product but this can get messy.

For shampoo and conditioner, store them cap side down so the product is nearer the opening. When that's pretty well used up you can add warm water to the bottle resulting in a watery shampoo that can be used for washing hands or laundering delicate items.

I avoid large heavy bottles. Those large bottles of Tressemme shampoo kill my hands.

They have a lot of different toothpaste squeezers & toothpaste dispensers on Amazon. Don't know how well they work. Maybe a bottle pump would work for your shampoo. Don't know if you could find the right side pump for your shampoo. Maybe the one off this bottle would fit. Just search bottle pump, toothpaste squeezers & toothpaste dispenser on Amazon. They have soap, shampoo, conditioner dispensers but looks like you would have to pour your products in those.

I use a sulfite-free shampoo called. "It's a 10" and it comes in a pump bottle. I get it at Amazon.

qualitygal, there are actually catalogs for those types of aids for arthritis sufferers.

Search on Google for something like, "helpful aids for arthritis patients" or search the Arthritis Foundation.
