Period.
LM*O.
That's it for antibiotics and painkillers then.
Yes. Seriously, think of all of the people who died without the advent of some of these medications, especially antibiotics.

To answer Montana's question, I went off the PPI cold turkey. My gastroenterologist had warned me about the rebound effect. I had awful heartburn for over a week after I stopped Aciphex but I knew it was that rebound effect and stuck with my replacement meds, Pepcid. At first I was on an Rx of 40 mg twice a day. More recently I switched to over-the-counter 20 mg Pepcid twice per day. I also try to watch what I eat. I'm back at my Weight Watchers goal weight, cut out my daily glass of champagne (but haven't given it up entirely), and avoid high fat and spicy food. I am far from perfect in what I eat but I am better because the side effects of PPIs just keep mounting and every one of my doctors who heard my theory said that I was likely correct. Having had intestinal MRSA once was one time too many!

I was prescribed Prevacid for many years due to GERD. I finally stopped taking it when it was diagnosed that my stomach no longer had the ability to produce acid.
I now have gastroparesis which prevents the stomach from adequately digesting food. This is a serious disease which often progresses to the point of tube feeding (which I will not do). I'll just let nature take its course.
In the meantime my whole gastrointestinal tract and colon has minimal motility and I am now on a special diet that is practically all liquid. Normal evacuation does not happen anymore.
Of course, my doc says no, the Prevacid did not cause this. I know better now. I took it every day for years. Who knew.
I also have severe osteoporosis and not demented yet, but I can't predict the future. About my heart, I am 78 and I do have some rythm problems, but all prior testing has not shown any issues so far.
All of my medical problems have been caused by medications except for RA (I think). And my docs wonder why I don't like meds and won't take them anymore.

This is why I use Pepsid COMPLETE for GERD/reflux. It is very helpful.
