My MIL just died at the age of 92 and never took any type of meds her whole life! My dh is the same, he's 61 and doesn't take anything. He'll live forever is what I always tell him.

In her 90s, my mother has never taken anything more than an aspirin.

I am 62 and my husband is 63.  We both take no drugs at all, prescription or OTC.  Of course, there are times where we need medications for a short term illness, but no maintance drugs are taken.

I only take Ibprofen for arthritis and back issues. I'm over 65. (I think I'll hide my age.)Woman Wink

After 42 years as a nurse I can tell you it is a rare occasion for anyone to check into the hospital and not have a list of medications they take every day. Some take one or two and most have a much longer list. And people who take herbals and supplements -- those are medications, same as Rx drugs.

I'm over 65 and I take no meds.  Then it might be heredity or the fact I dance 6 times a week every evening for over 2 hours.  And I am slightly overweight and need to FIX THAT but heck the desserts are too good to pass up most of the time.  Woman Very Happy

Hi @sandraskates! I'm thinking maybe you take thyroid replacement?

Although it is necessary to purchase thyroid hormone with a prescription, it is NOT a "medicine", at least not in the sense that you take it to fix part of you that's broken, as in taking meds to reduce blood pressure for example.

It is giving the body something that is missing, like a diabetic taking insulin.

Insulin and thyroid hormone are naturally produced by the body, but may need to be replaced or supplemented for various reasons.

You may already know this but it took me a long time to figure it out.

Good for her.  It's great she's on no prescription meds - unless of course she really needs something.  The for-profit healthcare industry wants us to be dependent on their remedies - we fill their pockets.

I am 78 and have several autoimmune diseases.  I am on three meds.  If it were up to my docs, I would be on at least 20.  That doesn't make me very popular with them, as they rarely let a patient walk out of their office without a scrip in hand.

I take no painkillers, no statins, no biologics, nor bisphosphonates, as all have life threatening side effects.

I have a lot of pain and discomfort, but I have gotten used to it, not that I enjoy it, for sure.

As we all know, Americans are the most medicated population in the world . . . by far.

I think most of us 'older' people that don't have to be on medication know how lucky we are.   Only one out of 7 of my sibs has any health issues at all.  Aside from getting old of course.    My husband is on a few medications, and we have a friend much younger than us that takes quite a few things.
