Prepping for the dreaded Colonoscopy today

[ Edited ]

I know it's a necessary evil but I am not looking forward the prep today and colonoscopy tomorrow. They scheduled me for a Covid test today. I am wondering what they are doing to protect me? I am going to ask if the medical personnel doing the procedure are vaccinated and or had Covid tests. Seems only fair.

Don't fret.

I just went through all this last week.  I took the covid test 3 days before and had to isolate until I started the prep.  The prep is what it is.  Twelve glasses the day before and 4 addtional the day of.  You just have to do it.  I flavored mine with Crystal Light lemonade and it made it palatable.  Once you're all through with it the rest is easy.  You are medicated through the procedure.

Mine came out negative and I can return again in five years.

Good luck to you too.

I forgot to add.  I trusted the health care system that performed the colonoscopy.  I didn't question whether the doctors (there were two of them) or the friendly nurses that assisted them had taken the vaccine themselves.  What is the purpose of doing that?  You either trust or you don't.  They did give me oxygen under my face mask with the explantion that it provided extra protection for everyone around me and it seemed like they were concerned for their own health safety.

It really wasn't much. They were very nice & make you as comfortable as you can be.

@KCDiva   I don't know anyone who doesn't dread the prep.  I had the last of what my gastro said should be my last unless I present with issues likely requiring surgery and I was so pleased to hear him say that.

On the other hand, having lived with an aunt and mother who confronted colon cancer before I even remember hearing about colonoscopies, the prep horror shrinks in comparison to dealing with that surgery.  Getting the okay for another 5 years got me through many preps.

I wish you those same 5 years and then 5 more and ....

I had one last summer.  Had to have a Covid test 3 days prior.  They never told me to quarantine, however, I didn't go anywhere because I began my prep diet 3 days prior.  Eating a soft diet 2 to 3 days before and a liquid diet one day before beginning the prep helped immensely.  I just filled a tumbler with ice and began sipping.  I started the prep much earlier in the day then was instructed because I wasn't going to get up at 3 am and drink the last glass of prep.  I finished at midnight and went to bed.  I was completely cleaned out.

I don't recall anything different than any other time I have had one.  Everyone had masks and gloves on.

I hope you have an easy time today prepping and a good report tomorrow!

I used to work in Endoscopy.  TIP:  Drink the prep cold (even on ice helps) and drink thru a straw.

Great idea! That's what I did.....made it extra cold (poured over ice), drank through a straw. It's not that bad.

@KCDiva

Kind of a mixed post! I just added my thoughts to a thread here about "asking who is vaxed", you mention that in your thread about prep.

As one that has had 15 Colonoscopies and 5 Double Balloon Enteroscopies, prep to me is just another day of the week.

Some have trouble with drinking a gallon  of Go/NuLytely, others have a problem with other types of prep. Doubt anyone likes any of the prep choices, but if you stuck with liquids for the last couple days, it should make the prep much easier.

My Colonoscopies? I had no idea what nurses would be involved in any of them. The doctor I specifically asked for, when done during my In-patient stays.

Most go to a Procedure Area prior to any tests or procedures being done, Out-Patient, other than my doctor of choice?  Nurses work 3 days a week, so I had no idea who would be on, who would be off.

Me personally? I have been vexed and I believe in it. I honestly don't care the status of others I am in contact with, for that very reason.

You either believe in the vaccine or you don't, and I am talking the "D/E/F/G or Z varient.
