@StraytoStay why would it be important for a doc to makes notes about shaving?

@dex probably on how you take care of yourself, but I really don't know.

@StraytoStay@dex,

Probably because you're wrapped in a sheet.  Also the older a woman gets, uterine cancer rises, so there's that (exam).

I've had a hysterectomy, but he still does a skin check.

Re: Preparing for a Doctor yearly physical

 I don't understand why people aren't getting their labs done the week before their appointment with the doc, so they can discuss the results. My doctor doesn't mail labs, so I want to see them on the screen when I'm at the appointment. If there's a change in a critical number like lipids or A1C, you want to be able to discuss it right there, not have a callback, right?

Here a link to a possible explanation for why doctors are noting how the undercarriage is groomed, or not. It deals with younger women, which is the demographic that seems most likely to defuzz down there, but I'd assume older women could experience the same problems.

Re: Preparing for a Doctor yearly physical

I really don't get why women would get their weight checked during their yearly exam? Why? I can't imagine a doctor accepting that in their patient! My doctor would just say buh bye to me if I refused to step on the scale and never got weighed by them! I'm assuming that those "no weighers" do have a weight problem and just don't want to accept it? I hope to live a nice, long life and if the simple task of stepping on a scale with help with that, then I'm in! Woman Happy

that's the extend of me getting prepared.

@Carmie  LOL!

A couple of years ago, I broke some bones in my ankle when I fell taking papers to the garage for recycling.  I was cleaning and felt dirty and sweaty.

i crawled, really crawled,  upstairs and got into the shower and shaved my legs before I would let hubby drive me to the ER.  I was afraid I would have a cast and would not be able to shower and shave really well for weeks,

i got one of those casts that I had to pump up in three places, but it could be removed for showers.  I was glad for that.

My DH thinks I am crazy. I would hate to be dirty when I need medical attention, but I suppose in an emergency, I would not have a choice.

I always have to be prepared in every way. I even have a "hospital bag" packed if and when ever needed.

I always prepare for my physicals the month prior to my appointment.  By that I mean, if I am 5 pounds or so UP from where I like to be, I will do everything in my power to lose that weight by walking more and eating less...... I check my blood pressure everyday and make sure it is where it should be.  I usually fast on fresh juice with my juicer two days before my appointment as well.  I guess I want to only hear good news and not be told I need medication or the like.

I do not like having Dr. checkups ,  I think getting weighed is THE WORST PART OF ALL!  But, I go get my checkup because I know how important it is to know what is going on with blood work etc.

Do you ever "prepare" for your annual checkups?

 Maybe I am just weird this way?😳😉

@SeaMaiden  I refuse to be weighed, as it is already in the records, I just tell her what my scale says and that is that.  I also don't answer personal questions not pertaining to my health.  I only have a yearly blood panel, not a yearly physical.

mousiegirl,
We sound like the same person.  Last time I saw a doctor, (for an ingrown eyelash of all things), the nurse wanted to weigh me and I refused.  I'm visably a normal weight, but dislike being weighed and told the number.  I do better not knowing the number.  Also, last real physical I had the doctor (a woman) asked me a personal question and I refused to answer.  This is new for me, the younger me would never have done this...but I just thought it wasn't necessary to any issues.

I am thinking that I really should have some blood work done, but I don't want to go through the entire "physical" thing, so I am thinking I may try to do that.

You're post is the first I've seen that echoes my thoughts and feelings

Re: Preparing for a Doctor yearly physical

I am one of the few that Never go for a check ups. I have to be dragged to the Dr unconcious if one is needed.

 I don't understand why you do all those things  to get a good report from the Dr on a yearly checkup. What good does that do?

You will never really know whats up if you have deceptably preped just to get a good report,then afterwards go back to normal routine..

Re: Preparing for a Doctor yearly physical

@SeaMaiden  Good luck with your Wellness check.  Yes you must fast from midnight forwrad inorder to do a full blood panel ie cholesterol check, blood, all they check.  I too was more vigilant a few weeks prior to my Wellness early May but I found out it takes WAY more than just a few days or weeks.  It's a lifetime commitment as it really should be because I was TOTALLY disappointed with myself after I received results on HDL, LDL and total cholesterol numbers.

So now I'm starting over with ALL that crosses my lips.  Every year I promise myself I WILL do better this year to get better results next year.

I hope you get good or great results.

@PINKdogWOOD  thankyou for your post.  I do not eat anything not healthy and watch my diet 365 days a year... probably the cleanest diet ever except for drinking my coffee in the morning. I guess I just get nervous getting tested and like I did in school studying like crazy for tests to get A's, I feel the same need to prepare for the blood tests so in my mind I will pass with A's as well!  Sounds all so silly really. It is JUST ME Smiley Happy

Exactly. And the ones who refuse to be weighed must be or think they are overweight. From the comments on this thread there are a lot of women here who know they "need" to lose a few pounds or maybe more than a few pounds.

I don't see how it's giving the doctor a true picture of your health if you change what you normally do and just loose weight for the exam and then probably gain it again.  Why go if you are being deceptive about things. I also don't see why anyone would refuse to be weighed as that could impact many areas of your health.  Anyway the doctor has eyes and if someone is overweight the fact that there is no number available doesn't matter as he'll note you are overweight and probably guess a higher weight anyway.  You are only deceiving yourself into thinking you might be lighter than you are and that could affect your health significantly over time.

@Pook    @SeaMaiden

I was thinking the same thing ..... it's like cheating on a final exam!

A true snapshot of your current health is taking the bloodwork, etc  without trying to alter the results.   IMO, it's more important to gauge where your numbers really are on any given day.

The most important thing to do beforehand (besides bathing, lol) is to compile a list of questions, any funny symptoms, and any thoughts about medications, etc.   Most of us get very little one on one time with an MD, so having a list helps to cover everything on your mind.
