I have asthma and have been on prednisone many times. With a history of gastric ulcers, I must be very careful about how the devastating effects of what we can take is very important. I have cellular phone results that will allow citizens to drink safe water. However, the future is very difficult to categorize. We are in deep, deep trouble.

The only thing I can tell you is that there was a time when my sister's doctor prescribed it for her, can't remember why.  Anyway when she told her son who is a doctor he told her under no circumstances should she take it.  Since you have done the research I'm sure you are aware of the side effects.  Haven't seen you for a long time, good to see you.

Yes . . . very.

@LilacTree

SO nice to see you again!   Are you back, or just stopping in?

I take several things for RA, including Enbrel which is a biologic.  Of everything I take, though, the prednisone seems to be the most effective at dealing with inflammation.  I was at 5mg and now am at 3mg daily.   A while back I had a horrific rash that manifested almost overnight, and was on 20mg for a week to clear it up.  I can't even begin to tell you how much better I felt all over!

Unfortunately, my appetite goes up on this drug, so I have to be VERY careful diet-wise.

My doc monitors carefully for side effects, but if it had none, I would consider it a "wonder drug".

I'm taking it day at a time, Tink.  If you read the rest of this thread, you will see that I have been on it a very long time at a higher dose (8 mgs a day, now trying to taper to 7 mgs) than your shorter term and lower dose experiences with it.

It has never given me energy, but does help with the pain.  I'll know in about a week if I can tolerate the taper down to 7 mg.  I also have to force myself to eat and my weight is way down, which is not good for me . . . less than my teenager weight.  I feel that I have to get off it soon.  I have aged ten years in the last year.  Prednisone is one of those miracle drugs, but only for short term (like your rash).

I have been prescribed Enbrel and other biologics, but I have never taken them.  I am too susceptible to infections.

Glad to see you too, Tink.

Hi lilac tree..it is good to see you post.

I have ave had a rough summer..am now on a new biological and feeling much better. You know I use prednisone sparingly...My dr would rather have his patients on biologics because of the debilitating side effects of prednisone.

i know that rd gets more difficult as we get older. Many (((hugs))) to you.

Something weird is happening here. If you check my original post, there was nothing confusing added at the end. I don’t know who is playing around here.

Last few days, crawling on the floor several times back and forth to pick up something I dropped.  I don't know which condition it is, I have so many.  Worrying it's the pred, but everything has suddenly worsened.  Had labs done.  Nothing shows up.

(((Hugs))) right back.

Lilactree.i saw my rheumatologist last week. He had a resident with him and asked me to tell him how difficult tye summer had been. My dr then remarked that labs do not always tell the entire story and do reflect how debilitating he disease can be.

i am sorry that you had to crawl...do you hAve assistive devices like a reacher. I know that yiur daughters helpcare for you, but you might need a bit more help.

Yes, I have a reacher (and a walker, a wheelchair, a raised toilet seat, bars and a chair in my shower, bars on my bed, and a myriad of utensils made for those who can't open things).

This was a broken bathroom scale.  I pushed it out of the bathroom with my feet, but then realized I had left the batteries in.  It was in the hallway, nothing to grab onto, so I had to let myself down in the living room, crawl to the scale and turn it over to take out the batteries, and then crawl back to the living room to raise myself back up using the sofa.  I first tried to push it onto the carpet toward the sofa, but it wouldn't go over the height of the carpet.

No one was here at the time, but I thought I could get it out of the bathroom when the new scale arrived.  I was able to do that because where the carpet ends, the hallway floor is tile and about an inch downward, so that part was easy.

Oh well, another day in paradise.
