I feel the same. I used to care for a woman that took tons of supplements. Se told me I MUST take Vitamin D3 and Ocuvite. I still do. She and I shared a birthday, she died at 96~ Her eyes were great, her optometrist was amazed. Do you take ocuvite?

No, I don't take the Ocuvite but take zinc and have berries and flaxseed in my smoothie each morning and take fish oil. My brother has macular degeneration so I want to protect my eyes. I also take D3. I had rather eat the antioxidants than take them as I love fruits and berries. I enjoy veggies, too!

On 6/23/2014 addiegal said: Emmiesmom, these are not adequate replacement for steroids in someone with adrenal insufficiency. Adrenal glandulars are supplements and the hormones are available in such low amounts it would not supply adequate cortisol for complete adrenal failure. There is no substitute for steroids in this instance.

Sorry addie, I disagree as I am taking them (Thorne Cortine) and having good results. It did, however, take several months to start feeling better. I also take porcine thyroid for my Hashimoto's and am fine with that as well. Me personally, I would rather do natural.

Re: Prednisone, What is your experience?

When you need full replacement of cortisol glandulars are not adequate. There is a difference between the adrenal glandulars and the pharmaceutical grade of desiccated thyroid hormone. The glandulars sold OTC do not contain enough cortisol. I could not live on adrenal glandulars. With Addison's or adrenal insufficiency when you have full failure you need adequate pharmaceutical grade steroids.

Re: Prednisone, What is your experience?

It seems that is all they are prescribing anymore. I took a couple years ago for a sinus infection and I felt my eyes were popping out of my head and I couldn't sleep. I will try my very best to never take it again.

Feel better soon

Re: Prednisone, What is your experience?

I agree steroids are used a lot and can have serious side effects. I am someone who does not have functioning adrenal glands and steroids are a life saver. I do not take the high doses given for inflammatory effect or to fight autoimmune diseases for example. I try to mimic what my glands would produce if they worked! Be careful with steroids and always taper as the doctor tells you. Stopping suddenly can leave you in adrenal crisis which is what can happen to me without my steroids. Always taper carefully. Hope you don't need the steroids again!
