Are your doctors asking you to fill out online Portal Accounts?  The third one just came yesterday.  I don't want to do this, as it's like putting all of your private life on posters all over town, the information is not just medical.  I don't trust it.  They say it's secure, but what's secure anymore?  I say nothing.

Anyone taking part in this?

Re: Portal Accounts

I have set up portal accounts for myself, DH and my mother. It was easy and has never been compromised. Never asks for SS# or banking information unless you're paying the bill.  I've been able to check on the status of her tests and even the results and the patient  summary and can pay any outstanding bill without waiting for the invoice to show up, it also shows tests performed and sent to them from an outside source. The upcoming appointments are also helpful especially if one of my sisters fails to remind me about an appointment for Mom.  Same thing for myself and DH.

I have found the portals to be helpful.  My only problem is coming up with and remembering yet another password.

I have a portal for all of my physicians with test results and I really like that I can renew prescriptions. My upcoming appointments are listed and all of my test results from my last hospital stay are available. I can fax results to my other physicians which helps with coordinating my care.

At this point in my life, I don't worry about the security of the information. I just like having access to it.

I love the portal.  No problems over the years.  If I were a celebrity, I might be concerned.  Otherwise, no one really cares about my medical history, I figure.

@LilacTree You don't specify the kind of portal account, so I can only assume it is healthcare related.  I belong to a large Medicare HMO in So. Ca and use their portal for all my healthcare needs.  Communication directly with providers, ordering of medication, appointments etc.  I appreciate the efficiency in the process.   Seldom do I have to pickup a phone only to wait on hold. Also,  not having to complete the same questionnaire over and over again is a plus.   I understand the risks of data sharing, but for me the benefits outweigh the risk.

@Trinity11

I'd like to see my reports also.  But even on FB, I have never filled out any of the personal information.

Odd, because I spill my guts here!  Ha Ha

I have another UTI (since you asked).  Doc putting me on amoxicillin even though I had a slight rash 35 years ago from penicillin and haven't taken it since.  No other med will work.  Par for the course.  I'll start with quarter doses.

Yes, healthcare.  I'll probably do it as I would like those conveniences also.

I have a patient portal with several doctors.  I like being able to see my test results before they mail them.  I can print my blood work results without having to ask the doctor to mail the complete blood work to me.  It's very convenient.

I have a UTI that won't go away. 10 days on Bactrim and now keflex. All of it tears up my stomach because of the other meds I have to take. @LilacTree Was your culture typed? My urologist wanted to wait for 4 days to get the result and I told her by then it would be in my kidneys. She gave me the keflex ...she wants me to see an infectitious disease specialist and be admitted to the hospital. The joys of having auto-immune disease...
